Yes, there is some legal work to be done in restoring fish passage during a bridge reconstruction project in the 100 Mile Wilderness. Proud to represent AMC in their important conservation work!

Another fabulous conservation win for DMC's client, Appalachian Mountain Club! Honored to do the legal work on the newest conservation acreage in Maine -- the 14,892-acre Barnard South in Piscataquis County (the 13,981 acres of Barnard North was acquired in 2023)!

Declaration of Maine Lawyers and Law Firms

We, the undersigned Maine law firms and lawyers, stand united in supporting the fundamental principles of our legal system, including the right to counsel, the independence of the legal profession, and the rule of law.

Our justice system is premised on the principle that all individuals and entities – regardless of their political, social, or economic standing – are entitled to representation. This foundational principle is not a privilege granted at the discretion of those in power; it is a cornerstone of democracy, enshrined in our Constitution, and protected by our courts. Attempts to intimidate or penalize lawyers for representing clients whose interests do not align with those of the government are antithetical to our democracy, violate the rule of law, chill attorneys from fulfilling their ethical and professional obligations, and undermine our system of justice.

We call upon all branches of government to support the rule of law and the essential role of lawyers in our democracy, and to reject any efforts to use the tremendous power of the government against members of the legal profession for performing their duty.

We further call upon our fellow members of the legal profession as well as members of the public at large to reject any attempt to harass or intimidate our country’s lawyers and judges for simply doing their jobs.

Did you know that AMC has permanently protected over 114,000 acres of forest in Maine’s 100 Mile Wilderness? Our AMC Maine Woods Initiative (MWI) offers 130 miles of recreational trails, 3 off-grid lodges, is an International Dark Sky Park, and is a certified responsible forestry operation with the Forest Stewardship Council. On top of that, we’ve restored native salmon and brook trout habitat, protected rare songbird populations, established community connections with local schools, and collected climate and ecosystem data for our research team across the landscape.
MWI is a special place, and our work with The Conservation Fund aims to increase our protected forestlands in Maine, through the acquisition of the Barnard Forest, an ecologically significant tract of land that abuts AMC’s current forestland.
