Attention, Englewood residents! The highly debated Buchan’s Bayside project is making its way back to the Sarasota County Planning Commission on May 21, 2026, at 5 p.m.

Located near The Corner Store and the War Memorial, this project has sparked controversy over its potential impact on our beloved Old Englewood Village.

Last October, planning commissioners unanimously voted against expanding the project due to concerns about preserving the village's unique character. Now, the developer is returning with four new requests that could reshape the Englewood community.

This meeting will take place at 4000 S. Tamiami Trail, next to the Venice Courthouse in the R.L. Anderson Administration Center.

Manatee County’s anti-builder movement may have scored victories in 2024, but Commissioner Robert McCann argues the fight is far from over. In a guest column for The Bradenton Journal, McCann says unchecked growth, political backtracking and continued pressure from major developers threaten the community’s quality of life, infrastructure and environment.

"The momentum of 2024 proved that when residents organize, developers blink," McCann writes." In 2026, let’s remind them that we are still watching, still organized, and still unwilling to let our community be paved over for a quick special interest payout."
