Did your car insurance go up a few years ago with no real explanation?

For some drivers, the answer was sitting in their driveway. Federal regulators found that GM collected detailed driving data, including speeding, hard braking, and late night trips, and sold it to companies that supplied reports to insurers. Some drivers didn't know they'd been signed up.

GM ended that program in 2024. But there's a second part of this story most people miss. The same kind of data your car records can show up after an accident. In Florida, if you're found more than 50% at fault, you generally can't recover anything from the other driver.

Here's what most people don't know: those conversations aren't private. OpenAI's own CEO has said there's no legal confidentiality when you talk to ChatGPT, and those chats can be requested as evidence in a divorce case. Deleting them doesn't guarantee they're gone.

There's a sign in some Florida waiting rooms that almost nobody reads.

It says, in capital letters, that your doctor has decided not to carry medical malpractice insurance. That's legal in Florida. State law doesn't require physicians to be insured, only to show they could pay a claim, and there's an exemption that lets almost any licensed doctor skip that too.

If something goes wrong, it doesn't mean you have no case. It does mean the details matter a lot more, and that you have less time than you think.
