J. Matthew Guilfoil—Mr. Mr. In 2008, Mr.

Guilfoil received his undergraduate degree from DePaul University and his law degree from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. He is Managing Member of The Guilfoil Law Group, L.L.C., in Kansas City, Missouri. Guilfoil has completed the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) / National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) approved 20-hour course in the administration o

f standardized field sobriety tests and is one of only four defense attorneys certified as an IACP / NHTSA standardized field sobriety testing instructor in the State of Missouri. He is certified to operate the Intoxilyzer 5000 breath-testing machine and has completed numerous training courses for both the Intoxilyzer 5000 and Datamaster breath-testing machines, the two most commonly used breath-testing devises used by law enforcement in Missouri. Guilfoil also attended and completed rigorous, proficiency-based training at the Forensic Blood and Urine Seminar held in Atlanta, Georgia. Guilfoil is also one of only two Missouri defense attorneys that has completed the 24-hour Drug Evaluation and Classification Overview Course, comprising the basis of the IACP / NHTSA Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) program. In 2003, 2006, and 2008, he attended the Summer Sessions of The National College of DUI Defense, a seminar taught by a faculty of the top trial attorneys in the United States which is held at Harvard University, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. From 2006 to 2009, Mr. Guilfoil served as the Missouri State Delegate to the National College for DUI Defense. Guilfoil is a recognized expert who has authored articles on DUI/DWI defense that have been published by the Missouri Bar Association, including the “Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and Cross Examination of the Arresting Officer” Chapter of the Missouri Bar CLE “Black Book” series, utilized by attorneys throughout the State of Missouri. He has taught numerous professional and continuing education courses on DUI/DWI defense-related topics to attorneys, police, and other law enforcement agencies in Kansas and Missouri for the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, the Kansas Trial Lawyer’s Association, and Lorman Education Services. In March of 2006, he presented a lecture to Missouri State Water Patrol addressing proper Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Procedures. He has been quoted in the Missouri Lawyer’s Weekly and the St. Louis Daily Record on DUI/DWI-related issues as well. Guilfoil is a currently a member of The National College of DUI Defense, The American Association of DUI Trial Lawyers, the Missouri Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. In 2007-2008, he served as Chair of the Municipal Court Committee of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association. Since 2006, he has been cited in Madison’s Continental Who’s Who. Since 2010, he has been named as a “Rising Star” in Super Lawyers in DWI and family law. Since 2010, he has been listed in Ingram’s Top Lawyers in the Kansas City area. Since 2010, he has been recognized as a KC Magazine’s Top Young Attorney in Missouri & Kansas Rising Stars (selected by attorney peers), and he has been included as a Best Lawyer in Best Lawyers in America, Inc. since 2010.
