On October 5, 1961, the High Contracting Parties signed the Convention on the Regulation of the Apostille in The Hague, which allows citizens to exercise their rights outside the borders of the country where the document was drawn up. The Apostille can be used to authenticate certificates, agreements, powers of attorney and other official documents.
Documents certified with an Apostille have high legal force and are mandatory for acceptance in all countries that have joined the Convention. In my practice, there was a case when an official refused to accept a document certified with an Apostille, imposing an additional obligation on the citizen to translate it and re-certify it with the seal and signature of a notary of the country where the document is presented. WRONG! This is a violation of the law and may lead to legal consequences.

If a citizen has suffered damage as a result of such an action, then this damage is subject to compensation under the legislation of the country where the damage was caused.
