What Is a Notice to Appear (NTA)?
A Notice to Appear, also called an NTA, is the document that otticlally olaces
someone into removal (deportation) proceedings in
Immigration Court.
It tells the Immigration Judge the government’s reasons for trying to remove you and gives you important information about your case.
What’s Inside the NTA?
-Your Personal Information
-Allegations
-Charges of Removability
-Your Court Information
Important: An NTA Is Not a Deportation Order
Receiving an NTA does not mean you’ve been ordered deported. It simply starts the court process, and you still have the right to:
-Hire an attorney Apply for relief
-Present evidence
-Fight the charges
What Happens If You Ignore It?
If you miss your hearing, the judge can order you removed in your absence - even if you never received the hearing notice because your address wasn’t updated.
