Congratulations to LT Colin Sommers! This past Friday 13 June, he (pictured right) and LT Eric Grady (pictured left) competed in the Naval Air Station Jacksonville Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Indoor Sprint Triathlon. LT Sommers came in first place overall with 9.75 miles covered! Phyisical readiness = warfighting readiness! HOOYAH!

On Thursday, 05 JUN 2025, LN1 Emily Abel was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (gold star in lieu of second award) from Commander, Naval Surface Force Atlantic, RADM Joe Cahill. COMNAVSURFLANT presented LN1 Abel with her award for her work with the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society for which LN1 assisted in raising over $500,000. Way to support the Fleet, LN1!

⚓️ On 4 April 2025 aboard Naval Station Norfolk, Commanding Officer CAPT Hollis Simodynes recognized three outstanding sailors for their recent contributions to command readiness at the Defense Service Office Southeast All Hands Meeting. LN1 LaQuoston Hafner was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (gold star in lieu of fourth award) in recognition of her earning Command Sailor of the Year. LN1 Montre’nese James was presented with her NAM by LNC Vasquez at the Mayport office for being the Junior Service Member of the Year. LT Bayley Williams earned Junior Officer of the Quarter for her exceptional defense legal work and her research into Maritime Prize Law in support of Code 10. BZ, Shipmates!

🇺🇸 At the 7 February 2025 All-Hands meeting, AM3 Fadil Mourad and OSSN Ayanna Wiggns received Letters of Commendation for their exemplary service aboard Defense Service Office Southeast where they served as PERSREP coordinators and assisted multiple attorneys in preparation for their administrative boards from summer 2024 through February 2025. Afterwards, LNCS Samantha Ayers received the Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (silver star in lieu of sixth award) for her service aboard her previous command — Commander, U.S. SECOND Fleet.

Happy reenlistment! AM3 Fadil Mourad, a soon-to-be Legalman, reenlisted aboard his parent command, Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron FIVE, on 31 January 2025. AM3 spent the past few months with DSO SE in preparation to join the Legalman communiuty, and so members of the command joined in support and celebration.

Attention to award! Commanding Officer, CAPT Hollis Simodynes presented awards to Mr. Vincent Powell, LT Bayley Williams, and LT Todd Mihill onboard Naval Station Norfolk on 12 December 2024. Mr. Powell’s combined 35 years of service to the Navy (as a service member and civilian—including extraordinary work as the command’s administrative officer), LT Williams’s invaluable contributions ensuring the successful September JDS conference, and LT Mihill’s recognition as Naval Legal Service Command’s Defense Counsel of the Year were all deservedly lauded. The awards were presented at the conclusion of the Defense Counsel Assistance Program’s Mobile Training Team’s annual course.
