With our next application deadline approaching on January 15th, and with there being many questions surrounding the work aspect of fellows, this month we are highlighting employment within our program!

On their applications, the fellows indicate the type of work/career that would suit their gifts, majors, and desires best, and we connect them with an employer-partner that would appear to be the best fit.
Mariel Kondas is employed with Pierce McCoy, a legal firm in downtown Norfolk, and she shared with us what her position entails as Special Projects Assistant:

“I’m on the administrative team doing things like credit card authorizations, social media, updating their websites, and helping input some new software to streamline their attorney-client paperwork. I’m also starting a nonprofit for/through PM that will provide free legal services to nonprofits and select faith-based organizations. So I have been doing a lot of work in the formation of that, including the business, marketing, and financial plans, social media, promotion, and now helping with some client needs!”

Josh is originally from a coal mining town in Illinois. He and his wife went to high school together, and they now have 4 small boys. Josh is an elder in his church and in his free time enjoys cooking, hiking, and reading. ⁠

Josh's focuses exclusively in the area of employment law and supervises all of the firm’s labor and employment matters. He provides counsel and helps the firm’s clients navigate through the multitude of labor and employment issues that arise in the workplace, including before various governmental regulatory bodies. Josh also has broad experience representing high-level officials and decision makers under investigation. When the need arises, Josh has also litigated a diverse range of labor and employment matters in federal court concerning a broad spectrum of various industries. ⁠

Federal employees are provided legal protections not available to employees in the private sector. ⁠
⁠
Most federal employees cannot be terminated without notice or without cause. Therefore, the agency must build a case against an employee before attempting to remove the employee from his or her position. It is therefore critical to obtain counsel if you suspect that the wheels have been placed in motion to have you removed. ⁠

Ben is a Georgia native. He is a University of Georgia alumni and a huge Georgia Bulldogs football fan. In his free time, Ben also enjoys tennis, photography, and spending time with his wife and two little girls. He and his wife live in the Richmond area where they are renovating a home. ⁠
⁠
Ben works for the labor and employment team in P/M’s Richmond office. He graduated law school from the University of Richmond. During school, he interned for the United States Attorney’s Office and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. After school, Ben spent time in private practice and thereafter left to complete federal clerkships in Virginia and Georgia. Ben is excited to return to Richmond where he hopes to use his training in the federal court system to help clients navigate challenging legal problems. ⁠

Aaron grew up in Iowa and has six siblings! He attended Washington and Lee University School of Law and now lives and works in Richmond, VA. When he isn’t working for P/M, Aaron enjoys working out, reading, and traveling. ⁠
⁠
Aaron focuses his practice in the area of labor and employment. He has litigated a broad spectrum of employment matters, from complex class matters in federal court to partnership fights in circuit court. Aaron also advises and provides counsel to the firm’s corporate clients in legally-challenging situations that touch the workplace. ⁠

Nat is originally from Mountain Lakes, New Jersey and attended Messiah University where he met his wife Kara. Nat and Kara have 4 children and they enjoy spending their time traveling up and down the East Coast exploring New England with their Airstream. Nat played lacrosse in college and had the opportunity to also play for the Norwegian National Lacrosse team. In his free time he also coaches lacrosse and is working on developing a local Fellowship of Christian Athletes lacrosse program. Since his playing days are almost behind him Nat recently discovered CrossFit and he regularly tries to get everyone in the firm to participate. ⁠

Nat was originally licensed to practice law in New York and New Jersey and came to Virginia to grow his experience in corporate and transactional legal matters for individuals as well as for profit and non-profit entities. Nat also oversees the management of the firm and helps lead the overall strategy and vision for the firm. ⁠
