Our veterans team is ready to help! Our next at the Hampton VA Office of Economic Empowerment will be on November 5th from 9:30am-noon.

📣 Attention Hampton Veterans! 📣

The Office of Economic Empowerment and Family Resilience and the Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia’s Veterans Justice Project are here to help YOU. Starting October 1st, and every first Thursday of the month after, from 9:30 a.m. to noon, attorneys will be available to answer your questions and take applications for free legal services at our Veterans outreach event.

The Veterans Justice Project Team is part of the Legal Services for Homeless Veterans and Veterans At-Risk for Homelessness Grant (LSV) Program. Their mission is to break down legal barriers that affect housing stability for veterans.

Legal services include:
✅ Eviction defense
✅ Family law and protective orders
✅ Help with domestic or intimate partner violence
✅ Access to health care
✅ Military discharge upgrades
✅ Disability benefits applications
✅ Consumer law (debt, garnishments, financial exploitation)
✅ Employment law

LASEV was proud to host Tuesday's pre-conference reception for visiting members of the legal aid community during this week's Statewide Legal Aid Conference. Thank you to everyone that came out!

A LASEV Staff Attorney will be available at the LGBT Life Center - Hampton location for their Career and Resource Fair! Our staff will be able to take applications for services and answer your questions about our program.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW SOUTHSIDE ATTORNEY!

We are pleased to welcome our new Staff Attorney for the Southside Office, Kirsten Companik, to the LASEV team! Kirsten attended undergraduate at Western Colorado University before earning her law degree from American University Washington College of Law. As a member of the Southside office, Kirsten will serve clients from Norfolk, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake and the Eastern Shore.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW SOUTHSIDE ATTORNEY!

We are pleased to welcome our new Staff Attorney for the Southside Office, Caroline Thomas, to the LASEV team! Caroline graduated from Sweet Briar College in Amherst, Virginia, in 2019 with a degree in Business. Before attending law school, she worked for Sherwin-Williams in the Automotive Finishes Division, working in multiple cities, including Newport News, VA, and Baltimore, MD. She then attended the Charleston School of Law beginning in August 2023 and graduating in May 2026. As a law school student, Caroline interned with LASEV in the Summer of 2025 as an Equal Justice Works LSC Rural Summer Fellow and had the opportunity to work with the Southside staff and the Eastern Shore staff. After spending the last three years in Charleston, South Carolina, Caroline is excited to be back in her home state of Virginia. Outside of work, Caroline enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and pets.

As part of the Southside Office, Caroline will serve clients from Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach and the Eastern Shore.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW SOUTHSIDE STAFF ATTORNEY!

We are pleased to welcome our new Staff Attorney for the Southside Office, Amanda Gomez, to the LASEV team! Amanda attended undergraduate at Southern Adventist University before receiving her MFA in Poetry from Old Dominion University and her law degree from Regent University. As part of our Southside office, Amanda will serve clients from Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake and Portsmouth.

Please note the following changes to our hours of operation and intake procedures for the week of 10/12-10/16.

On Wednesday and Thursday, LASEV will only be taking WALK-IN applications for matters involving protective orders, writs of eviction and lockouts. All other applicants should apply when we reopen for normal business on Friday, October 16th.
