"By failing to properly address and repair problems as they have been repeatedly brought to NRHA’s attention over the last five to ten years, NRHA has chosen to accelerate the deterioration of Young Terrace and Calvert Square. "

LASEV SPEAKS OUT!

Deputy Director and Director of Litigation Melissa Bonfiglio spoke at the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority's May Board of Commissioners meeting on issues our clients have been facing both in public housing units and in NRHA's Housing Choice Voucher program. In addition to the mismanagement of maintenance at their public housing units, Ms. Bonfiglio noted that the lengthy process for tenants using Housing Choice Vouchers makes it difficult for families to truly find a safe, decent place to live. Many of the families in Young Terrace and Calvert Square believe they will receive a Housing Choice Voucher when their communities are demolished in FY 2027, making the need for voucher management reform even more urgent.

The Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia is a nonprofit law firm providing FREE legal services to low-income Virginians in civil matters. We are not affiliated with NRHA. We have assisted numerous NRHA residents with their matters related to poor maintenance, disability discrimination, and eviction prevention. If you are an NRHA resident and are experiencing issues with your unit or property manager, please call us at 757-827-5078 to start an application.
