The Lincoln County office sadly shares the news of the recent passing of our friend and former Director, Linda Gast.

Linda was instrumental in the creation of an independent Legal Aid office in Lincoln County that later became part of the statewide organization which eventually evolved into LASO. She spent over 30 years with Legal Aid and was well-known and respected in this community and beyond.

We were very fortunate to have Linda in our lives. She will be greatly missed.

Linda’s obituary is below. A memorial will be held this summer in Newport.

A little bit of light left this world when Linda passed on March 16, 2026. She was born in St. Joseph, Michigan to Harry and Jean (Warren) Gast. She grew

November SNAP benefits are here in Oregon! The federal government remains shut down, but ODHS was able to issue full November SNAP benefits with federal approval. We know how important these benefits are, so we worked quickly to begin issuing benefits last night. Everyone should have full November SNAP benefits on their EBT cards this morning, Nov. 7, 2025 - even if you normally receive SNAP later in the month.

Before shopping, check your EBT card balance to make sure their benefits have been issued. There are several ways to check your balance:

- Call ebtEDGE customer service toll-free at 888-997-4447
- Visit https://ebtEDGE.com
- Use the ebtEDGE mobile app

ODHS does not recommend any other EBT management websites or apps.

While the release of SNAP benefits is not a scam – we want everyone to remain aware of potential scammers who could be trying to take advantage of the confusion in this situation. Do not click any suspicious links in emails, texts or social media posts, and only trust ODHS for information about Oregon benefits. You can find tips to protect yourself from electronic theft here: https://www.oregon.gov/odhs/benefits/Pages/protect.aspx

We are heartbroken to know that food insecurity is being felt so deeply right now.
While we’ve continued to share our unsold bread and pizza with the local food shelter each day, we know it’s simply not enough.

Beginning this Wednesday, if you are an Oregon Trail Card holder, please stop by — we’ll have a loaf of bread for you, every Wednesday.

We bake fresh bread every day, and since I’m the only baker, this will be while supplies last — but it’s one small way I can help the community that has given so much to me.

In the words of our wonderful Linda Yapp, “a whole lot of little makes a lot.”

Dear community,

As many of you know, our office is very small. Unfortunately, this year has been rough on our very small staff. Until further notice, we are closed to walk ins. To meet with the attorney, you will need to call us and schedule an appointment, which will take place nearby, but not in our office. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause, and thank you for your patience and understanding. We are committed to serving our community, but this is going to need to look a little different for a few weeks.

Thank you,

Legal Aid Services of Oregon, Lincoln County office

Estimada comunidad:

Gracias,

Servicios de Asistencia Legal de Oregón, Oficina del Condado de Lincoln

Missing Child - Siletz, Oregon

On March 1, 2025, at approximately 4:25 PM the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office was notified of a missing 2-year-old child at a residence near milepost 21 on Siletz River Highway in Siletz, Oregon. Members of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, Siletz Valley Fire, Oregon State Police, Newport Police Department, Lincoln City Police Department, and Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue responded to the scene. Emergency personnel immediately began searching the residential property and surrounding areas on foot and air with the assistance of aerial drones. The drones have cameras and thermal imaging equipment.

The child, Dane Paulsen, was last known to be playing in the yard of the residence at the time of his disappearance. He was wearing a grey fuzzy hoody with ears, blue and white shoes, and black pants. Dane has brown hair and green eyes.

The Sheriff's Office has also listed a late 90's gold colored station wagon as a vehicle of interest. A vehicle matching this description was seen in the area before Dane went missing. The Sheriff's Office is requesting anyone who may have information relating to Dane's disappearance or information relating to a vehicle matching this description to call our Tip Line at 541-265-0669 or our non-emergency dispatch at 541-265-0777.

The Sheriff's Office would like to acknowledge and thank the approximately 150 community members who responded and searched the surrounding area upon receiving information of Dane's disappearance. The active search for Dane is ongoing.
