🚗🏁 CLASSIC CAR OWNERS: BIG NEWS IN CALIFORNIA! 🏁🚗

If you own a classic Camaro, lowrider, vintage Mercedes, old pickup, or another collector vehicle, a new California law could change your smog-check requirements.

📜 “Jay Leno’s Law” — Senate Bill 1392 — creates a phased-in smog-check exemption for qualifying collector vehicles from the 1976–1985 model years, beginning January 1, 2028.

⚠️ But there’s an important distinction: A smog exemption is NOT a safety exemption.

Brakes, tires, steering, suspension, lights, and other safety equipment still need to be properly maintained. If a mechanical problem contributes to a crash, maintenance and liability can become important issues in a personal injury claim.

The Autumnal Equinox marks the transition into fall — but it also brings changes in daylight, visibility, weather, and driving conditions that can create new hazards on California roads.

🚗 DRIVERS:
As the days get shorter, morning and evening commutes increasingly happen in low-light conditions. Slow down, keep your windshield clean, and make sure your headlights are working properly.

🚶‍♀️ PEDESTRIANS:
Less daylight can make pedestrians harder to see, especially near intersections and crosswalks. Wear bright or reflective clothing when walking near traffic.

During National Dog Week, let’s celebrate our furry family members while remembering that responsible pet ownership also means keeping dogs, their families, and the public safe.

🐾 A few simple safety reminders:

🦮 Keep dogs properly restrained. Use a leash when required and make sure your yard is securely fenced.

🚗 Buckle up your best friend. Dogs riding loose in vehicles can be seriously injured—or become a dangerous distraction for the driver. Use an appropriate pet restraint or secured carrier.

👋 Teach children to respect a dog's space. Even friendly dogs can react when frightened, startled, eating, or protecting their puppies.

🚗👶 CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY WEEK: KEEP OUR KIDS SAFE ❤️

September 20–26, 2026 is Child Passenger Safety Week, a nationwide reminder to make sure our youngest passengers are properly protected every time they ride in a vehicle.

As a father of four children, I know how important it is to make sure everyone is safely buckled before putting the car in gear. As a personal injury attorney, I also know how devastating a crash can be for a child and their family.

🛡️ IMPORTANT SAFETY TIPS:

👶 Use the right car seat for your child's age, height, and weight.

🔄 Don't rush the next stage. Keep your child in their current seat until they reach its height or weight limits.

📍 Check the installation with an inspection from a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician.

🚙 Keep children in the back seat. NHTSA recommends children under 13 ride in the back.

🔒 Buckle up every trip—even a short drive around the neighborhood.

☀️ Never leave a child alone in a vehicle. Always check the back seat before walking away.

🇺🇸 CALIFORNIA PARENTS: Know the state's child passenger safety laws, but remember that meeting the legal minimum isn't necessarily the same as following the safest practice.

Check NHTSA's Car Seat Finder for guidance on choosing and installing the right seat. You can also contact your local California Highway Patrol office about child passenger safety resources and inspections.
