NJ/NY Healthcare Providers: If investigators call/visit: 1. take card/contact info; 2. tell them lawyer will call in 48 hrs. Don't talk - let us.

During my time as a NJ Deputy Attorney General prosecuting for the professional boards, and since I've been defending healthcare providers, I am surprised by the number of professional license holders who will speak to investigators without first reaching out to their attorney. As professionals, and as human beings, we all want to explain ourselves, tell our side of the story, let the truth speak for itself, etc. That need, combined with the idea that only culpable people need an attorney, along with real financial concerns about the expense of hiring an attorney, lead many to say things they regret.

Be wise. Resist the urge. Let an attorney experienced in defense of healthcare providers before the licensing boards and the US Attorneys, prepare you to best answer any questions, if in fact same is required. At Garcia-Watts Law, LLC, we are ever-mindful of a licensees’ duty to cooperate with their Board and governing authorities. However, we will guide you to do so in a manner that best protects you, your license and your livelihood.
