‼️A federal judge has ordered the government to reinstate the SIJS deferred action policy while the lawsuit is ongoing, requiring USCIS to resume considering SIJS youth for this vital protection from removal that thousands of young people have depended on.

USCIS must also resume processing work permit applications based on SIJS deferred action.

The November 19, 2025 ruling recognizes the real harms that SIJS youth faced in the absence of this vital safeguard, and it ensures the brave plaintiffs in this case will be protected from deportation as the lawsuit continues.

Denise's extraordinary impact includes:

•Eviction Defense: Instrumental in the Tenancy Clinic, providing hands-on support to tenants facing housing insecurity.
•Gender Affirming Name Changes: Personally helping dozens of transgender community members navigate the legal process through VLJ’s PRIDE Name Change Program.
•Wider Support: Securing help for clients in bankruptcy and providing crucial administrative assistance to a local domestic violence nonprofit.

Denise is a testament to the compassionate, transformative power pro bono can have. She doesn't just facilitate, she provides the high-level, personal help and caring touch our clients need and deserve.
