Last Thursday, just ahead of the Mid-Autumn Festival, A&A with Tiffany Miao at Miao Law LLC had the pleasure of welcoming artist Sharon Li for a special evening of Chinese ink painting with a room full of Asian American lawyers and legal professionals!

Hosted as an AABANY Solo and Small Firm Committee event, the evening gave us a chance to step away from our usual routines, put down our phones and laptops, and entertain a brush with creativity. 🖌️

Sharon introduced us to the beauty and spontaneity of Chinese ink painting—and taught us that it is, by nature, a mistake-driven medium. Rather than trying to make every stroke perfect as is common in European-style painting, we learned to embrace our “mistakes,” and let the unexpected strokes become part of the artwork. In doing so, we were reminded that sometimes, creativity is less about controlling the destination and more about the journey.

In the spirit of the Mid-Autumn Festival, we practiced painting traditional symbols of the season, including bamboo and pomelos.🎋🍊And for those feeling particularly adventurous, there were even some attempts at the Jade Rabbit! 🐇🌙

What a wonderful moment to unwind and indulge our creative sides, all in the midst of good food and even better company. We’re grateful to Sharon for sharing her art and wisdom with us, and to everyone who joined! It was an ink-redible evening!

Last Friday, A&A had its first firm outing of the year! ✨ We went to the Scents & Sensibility event hosted by ELOREA in collaboration with Yellow Peril Books in celebration of ELOREA’s newest perfume collection. 💐📚 As we explored the love stories woven into each fragrance, authors Nancy Jooyoun Kim and Jimin Han guided us on a creative journey through our own memories of love at its most beautiful. 💌💗

Founded to feature and nurture Asian and Asian American voices, histories, and traditions, Yellow Peril Books celebrates the many nuances of Asian and Asian American identity through the books it sells. ELOREA similarly tells stories of Korea through perfume—its name itself is an abbreviation of “Elements of Korea.”

In a moment when immigrants continue to face backlash and uncertainty around their right to remain, evenings like these are potent reminders of the vital necessity of storytelling: of whose stories get told, whose histories are preserved, and how shared stories can help build a future rooted in love, belonging, and acceptance. At Anderson & Associates, we are proud to represent these immigrants at the beginning of their journeys to ensure such a future is not only possible, but a right. We are deeply grateful for events like this one that remind us why that work matters. ✍🏻❤️

🍂👏 FALL 2026 FIRM UPDATE 👏🍂

We are so thrilled to have the whole office back! 🥳 Monday marked the first day of a full firm, so naturally, we commemorated with Firm Picture Day. 📸

Our academic year interns Cristina Kim and Melina Nath have rejoined and we couldn’t be more excited to have them back. 🎉 🎉 🎉

And this year, our firm has some new additions to the office:
1) Serrina Zou joins us as a full-time paralegal after a year abroad as a Fulbright ETA Fellow in Taiwan.
2) New floors and blinds alert! Our firm now has some gorgeous new hardwood floors and blinds to keep out that glaring Midtown sun.

Here’s to a fresh season, a refreshed office, and a full team ready for all that’s ahead! 🍁✨ We’re excited for what this fall—and this next chapter—will bring. 🥂

Congratulations to our 2026 summer intern Miriam Spence on winning second place in the 2026 Columbia Undergraduate Law Review High School Essay Contest Columbia Undergraduate Law Review !!! 🎉✍🏻 Out of nearly 800 entries worldwide this year, Miriam’s brilliant essay placed second. 🌏🤩

This year’s essay contest topic, National Sovereignty and the Rights of Non-Citizens, concentrated on immigration law, a specialty practice area for us. When writing her now award-winning essay, Miriam reflected deeply upon her time at Anderson & Associates Law. She says: “I want to thank Ms. Anderson and Mr. Anderson for the remarkable insight they gave into immigration processes. They are both excellent legal writers, devoted to helping immigrant clients, and I am grateful to Anderson & Associates for allowing me to work in such a critical field this past summer.”

On August 5, 2026, we were privileged to host Justice Lillian Wan along with a group of high school, undergraduate, recent graduates, and law students! We are so grateful to Justice Wan for sharing her valuable insights and advice with this group of aspiring attorneys.

The attendees departed this event with a valuable understanding: success is defined not by accolades or perfection, but by perseverance, confidence, and a steadfast commitment to serving their communities. As we enjoyed the decadent Passion Collection cakes from Lady M Confections Official, we learned so much from her wisdom and experiences with perseverance and zealous advocacy. On August 4, 2026, a group of dedicated AABANY Book Club members gathered to share their insightful thoughts on their monthly book Nora Ephron’s I Feel Bad About My Neck. The members discussed a plethora of topics relating to this book and its author: from how “New York” this book is, aging, career reflections, maintaining success while thriving through changes brought by womanhood, to the Chinese dishes mentioned.

This book brought about a mix of serious, humorous, and insightful conversations from our book club members. This activity reminds us that reading is a way to reflect, grow, and build a stronger community within AABANY. Thank you to all those who attended!

We were so excited to host Breakthrough New York middle school students for their annual career day on July 23rd 2026! We organized a mock lease agreement where they divided into two groups of landlords and tenants, with the objective of successfully negotiating appropriate terms.

It was so much fun to see their passion and creativity as they reached their final agreement. It is always a pleasure to host Career Day and we hope to see them again next year!
