Yiwen Zhou is a law clerk at Anderson & Associates. She is from Shanghai, China, and studied at Georgetown Law.

Mikesha Withanachchi has also joined us as a law clerk at Anderson & Associates. She is from Queens, New York and studied at American University Washington College of Law.

We would also like to welcome back Melina Nath, student at Barnard College of Columbia University, as an intern.

On July 16, we had the opportunity to attend the Spotlight Series featuring Judge Denny Chin — a powerful conversation on citizenship, immigration, and civil rights, told through landmark legal cases involving Asian Americans.

Hosted by the Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA), the Spotlight Series amplifies influential voices across the Asian American community. Founded in 1980, MOCA is a cultural and historical institution committed to preserving and sharing the history, heritage, and lived experiences of Asian Americans through exhibitions, education, and public programs. Judge Denny Chin is a distinguished and inspiring Senior United States Circuit Judge for the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. In 1994, he was appointed to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York by President Bill Clinton, becoming the first Asian American U.S. District Judge appointed outside the Ninth Circuit. He was elevated to the Second Circuit in 2010 by President Barack Obama and confirmed unanimously.

After the talk, we had the opportunity to speak with Judge Chin. His discussion of key Asian American legal cases highlighted the importance of recognizing underrepresented histories to promote a more inclusive society and honor the experiences of Asian immigrants.

Yesterday afternoon, we visited Citi headquarters and got a glimpse of the institution beyond its corporate exterior. Thanks to Ngan Nguyen, Global Strategic Advisor at Citi, we had the opportunity to attend the Asian Heritage Cultural Talent Showcase — a truly special event that brought together employees across departments to share their cultural pride and creativity.

We were impressed by the incredible range of performances, from traditional Chinese opera to K-pop, Bharatanatyam (an Indian classical dance), and a moving violin and cello duet — all reminding us of the rich diversity and community within one of the largest banks in the world.

Our firm led by Managing Principal Yen-Yi Anderson, Esq., was honored with the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association APA-Owned Law Firm of the Year Award over the weekend. This award recognizes law firms distinguished for their commitment to the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) community and for upholding high ethical standards.

Founded in 2014 and headquartered in Manhattan, Anderson & Associates is a boutique firm dedicated to meeting the demand for immigration law services. Under Yen-Yi Anderson’s leadership, the firm serves clients with integrity, offers pro bono services, and actively engages in community outreach through speaking engagements and mentorship.

We extend heartfelt thanks to our associates, staff, and the Asian American Bar Association of New York for their support, and special acknowledgment to Yang Chen, AABANY Executive Director, Senator Iwen Chu, and May Wong, former Vice Chair of AABANY’s Pro Bono & Community Service Committee, for their contributions to our success.

Earlier today, Managing Principal Yen-Yi Anderson, attended the New York City Department of Small Business Services Citywide M/WBE Procurement Fair at Cipriani. Attendees had the opportunity to network with government agencies, service providers, private sector contractors, and certified NYC Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises. Yen-Yi Anderson participated in the Opportunity Room Workshop, “Make NYC Public Schools and the School Construction Authority Your Next Client” (NYCPS, SCA). Pictured below is a photo of Yen-Yi Anderson with Elizabeth Yoon, Special Assistant to the Commissioner. It was wonderful to reconnect with Elizabeth after our office visit at SBS over the summer with our interns. Special thanks to Samantha Dessler for coordinating that visit!
