I was just about to fall asleep, but was drawn to write the following first. Most people (of the Jewish faith for sure) know that tonight begins Lag Ba'Omer, or the 33rd day of the Omer count between Pesach and Shavuot. Most also know that it is the Yahrzeit of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, talmudic sage and author of the preeminent work of Kabbalah, the Zohar. What many do not know is that it that Lag Ba'Omer is also the Yahrzeit of one of my holy ancestors, Rabbi Isserlis, famed author of the code of Jewish law ("Shulchan Orech") otherwise known by his acronym, the "RAMA", ZY"L.
Additionally, tomorrow night "Lad" Ba'Omer, begins the Yahrzeit of my holy 4th great grandfather, Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Rimanov, Poland, ZY"L. It is customary to light a candle for both Yahrzeits of my holy ancestors on the night of their respective Yahrzeits, tonight and tomorrow night, in addition to a candle for the aforementioned great talmudic sage, Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, ZY"l. GN and sweet dreams to all....
