Hi friends,
Sorry we've been quiet! We considered organizing a public viewing zone for the 2022 World Cup, but as all of you know, the Qatar event is troubling on many fronts. Human rights abuses and corruption have put a huge stain on the 2022 World Cup. FIFA should never have awarded the bid to Qatar.

Everyone will decide for him/her/themselves what to do. The games are taking place whether or not we watch. At the very least, this debate is putting the spotlight on the human rights violations, corruption, greenwashing, sports-washing that are inextricable from the Qatar World Cup and FIFA's complicity in all of it.

To lovers of Governors Island!
We've been quiet for awhile (apologies) but we hope everyone is healthy and sane during this COVID crisis.

Governors Island has been a mecca of quirky programs and events generated by small cultural producers and organizations. We were part of a group of program partners that presented opposition to the TGI's petition to rezone the island to allow development. CB1 will convene on December 14 — it's urgent that as many people as possible participate in the open comment period (ending today, sorry for the late notice!). Also, please sign the petition immediately (link in the shared post below) and contact the councilmembers to voice your position.

Keep Governors Island a place for recreation, culture, and education — not for private development. Please share this widely.. Thanks!

How touching and wonderful that the English Premiership started its games yesterday with players taking the knee (after the whistle, not before!) -- every single player. What a message to the world. And everyone player wearing shirts with Black Lives Matter on the back. RESPECT!
