The Zahn Innovation Center incubates and nurtures entrepreneurial initiatives at the City College of New York, providing students, faculty and staff with the tools they need to transform their ideas into sustainable ventures. We offer support for both technology-enabled startups and social impact ventures. Our goal is to train the next generation of entrepreneurs with the skills they need to succe

ed in their venture, a skill set that is increasingly valued and necessary in our modern economy. We also aim to contribute meaningful innovation and job creation to the local community, New York City and beyond. The Center provides co-working spaces for its technology startups and social ventures and an ongoing, campus-wide speaker series. We host three entrepreneurship competitions per year, with more than $100,000 in collective prize money. We also offer mentorship, practical workshops, and expert pro-bono services for legal, IP and accounting support. The Center serves as a conduit between the university and the wider New York City tech and social entrepreneurial ecosystem, facilitating meaningful connections to early stage business leaders, advisors and the investment community. To date, the Zahn Innovation Center has housed 28 startup teams that have raised in excess of $1.5M of funding. The teams’ revenues amount to almost $1M and they’ve filed 10 patents. A total of 56 part-time and full-time jobs were generated by our startups.

The Zahn Innovation Center is launching a new Freelancing Fellowship this Fall 2024.

This hands-on, project-based workshop program will help support CCNY students to become successful in the opportunities presented by freelancing and by joining worker-owned co-ops. These opportunities allow students to earn money using skills, talents, and knowledge that they have learned in classes or other experiences, either as a lucrative "side hustle" or as a primary means of earning a living after graduation - even without needing formal work authorization.

TheDream.us scholars may apply for a $1000 fellowship. All other students may apply to participate in the workshop series and get other resources!
