New York City for CEDAW New York City for CEDAW | Ensuring Equal Rights for the Women in New York City

Email: [email protected]

NYC for CEDAW was formed in 2014 at the yearly Commission on the Status of Women conference in the United Nations. Presently, NYC for CEDAW constitutes members and supporters of over 30 international Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs), local community organizations, city council members, city-wide offices, attorneys, students, and volunteers. A New York City ordinance based on the framework of

the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), can address and enact local laws to mandate:

Equality for women: eliminating all forms of discrimination
Equal pay for equal work
Health and social services responding to specific needs of women and girls
Education curricula for girls’ success including STEM (Science-Technology-Math-Engineering)
Stopping violence against women and girls including domestic violence
Access to affordable and safe housing
Why make New York City a “City for CEDAW” – The ‘Cities for CEDAW campaign harnesses the power of individual cities to adopt CEDAW into municipal ordinances to support gender equality for women and girls. The time is NOW for New York City to join CEDAW cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles which already prove it works. In addition, in November 2014, the City of New York and UN Women signed an agreement to work together to enhance the safety and empowerment of women and girls. “It is the first such agreement signed between the City and a United Nations entity. As part of the pact, the City will support public education and advocacy efforts organized by UN Women in the context of the 20th anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action, the visionary roadmap for gender equality adopted by 189 governments” (www.unwomen.org).

Once a great leader at Rutgers. IAWRT should go back to featuring our members.

When as a parent we can make this kind of statement, the pain and nightmare is undescribable. The world is throwing us the curved ball. Can you begin to imagine the pain of this dad!

Israel, you are killing the hostages too. Do not let darkness cloud your thinking. Revenge is not for us as Jews. Defence and protection is tantamount an negotiation to get the Israelis out. Sad to say, you must negotiate. Not only will the hostages be murdered if you strike the Devil, but your air strike on Southern Gaza is killing Palestine babies and the elderly and the infirmed. We are not the eye for an eye people otherwise, we would be in a blind world. We are, it would seem, not being able to see humanity.

Lack of electricity, water, medicine, already shows the power you reign over palestine already creating the monsters who wants you gone. An impossible task.

We all want the Hamas destroyed completely. Captured and charged with war crimes. But they will rise again. Find a path to civility.

The Jews, Arabs, and Christians, lived peaceful lives together not long ago. Assess the situation. Create civility. Mankind hath never known peace, a prayer in the Siddur says. Too much blood. I have friends and family who were evacuated from their homes in the North. And the other side can say too, that their family were bulldozed off their land. Let's do the right thing.

I pray for this father. I pray too for all who have lost loved ones in the carnage and continue to do so. Netanyahu has failed his people bitterly.

Grief-stricken Thomas Hand told CNN he was glad his daughter had been killed rather than taken as Hamas hostage to Gaza, a fate "worse than death."
