Goldman Sachs said on Monday that it would pay $215 million to settle a lawsuit that accused the bank of systematically discriminating against thousands of female employees. The money will be divided among about 2,800 women, and the bank agreed to change some of its practices.

The lawsuit accused the Wall Street bank of hindering women’s career advancement and paying them less than their male colleagues.

Dozens of former Twitter employees have approached Menaka Fernando, a partner at the law firm Outten & Golden’s San Francisco office, with similar issues. “They’re concerned that these benefits are now suddenly being stripped from them,” she says, adding that she is considering whether there could be a legal challenge to Twitter’s decision to withdraw employee staff benefits.

"The class-action lawsuit against the bank, filed by Cristina Chen-Oster, is the industry’s most prominent over gender. It focuses on pay and promotions. Attorneys suing the firm also tried to bring a claim that it has a “boys’ club” atmosphere, but the court said that would require “individualized inquiries” into incidents and didn't qualify for class treatment.
