Jamaica in the house today 🇯🇲
My client entered the US on a visitor visa a few years ago and the Customs & Border Patrol Officer issued a prohibitive stamp in his passport. Even though he was allowed to visit the US for 6 months, the officer wrote that the client must leave after only 30 days. The client and his wife were fearful that this entry stamp would cause problems for the Green Card process but I told them that the stamp by CBP is merely a notation based upon the CBP officers opinion—it is not binding on a USCIS officer. We of course always make sure we prepare a memo in case the officer needs some authority or wants to wrestle! Officer said he was recommending the case for approval after the interview was smooth sailing. Preparation is everything! ❤️🇯🇲❤️

I take no chances when I want to get an Immigration Officer’s attention. I bring out the colors and giant fonts so that my legal memos get noticed. I know it’s not traditional but the Immigration Officers always tell me how they appreciate boldly presenting legally significant issues.
Today’s Officer told me, “this is colorful-can’t miss it!”
Me: cringe
Officer: No ma’am, your bold text helps us to not make mistakes. When I have to review hundreds of pages it’s nice to see how much care you put into presentation.”

Ready for a Removal of Conditions Waiver case (post-divorce) in New York City, New York-We are ready!!!!! These are my favorite interviews where I help someone keep their Green Card!
❤️ Case was super convoluted but thank God it all worked out. The couple was divorced but the USC spouse still attended the interview and we submitted her story via affidavit in her own words. This was an incredibly human love story and I can see that the couple still loves and respects each other so much 💕 These cases can change lives and as such, take a degree of care that a skilled attorney should devote their time to and not be handled like it’s just another file.

Congrats to my client who passed her Citizenship interview just now at USCIS’s Newark, NJ office. She had previously applied for US Citizenship and had attended a very hostile interview which led to her being denied Citizenship. The Officer made her feel very anxious so the next time around she wanted to make sure she was represented by an attorney. I had explained the background of the case to the Officer today and he responded very compassionately. He told my client “I am not going to hurt you or do anything to make you feel uncomfortable. We all would love to see you pass today.” This instantly changed the energy in the room and my client got a perfect score on her civics exam. BEST thing about the day was that she was allowed to be sworn in today also so she got to take home her Naturalization Certificate today 🍒 🇺🇸

The mood felt quite special today since the Fourth of July holiday is almost upon us. I hope you all enjoy this holiday weekend! 🎇🎆
