Extreme heat isn’t just uncomfortable, it can be dangerous for people working outdoors.

New York City is taking action by directing city agencies to study workplace heat-related illnesses, create prevention plans, provide multilingual safety guidance, and explore stronger protections for workers.

With heat illnesses often going unreported, better information could help protect workers today and shape stronger safety standards in the future.
Every worker deserves a safe workplace—no matter the temperature.

Concessions workers earn their tips and management cannot simply take them.

Recent allegations involving missing tips at the Brooklyn Cyclones highlight a persistent problem for workers: wage theft. Under New York law, managers and owners cannot keep employees’ tips, and workers may have legal options when tips or other wages go unpaid.

If your paycheck is missing tips or wages you earned, you have the right to ask questions and explore your options.

You don’t need special legal language to ask for support at work.

If you have a disability or medical condition and need a workplace adjustment, simply letting your employer know may be enough to start the ADA accommodation process.

A reasonable accommodation might include a modified schedule, additional leave, specialized equipment, remote work, or another adjustment that helps you do your job. Your employer should consider your request and work with you to identify an effective solution.

Know your rights. Ask for the support you need.

New York is one step closer to strengthening employee protections.

The proposed Anti-Waiver of Employment Rights Act would prevent many employment agreements from limiting an employee's rights under New York law and could require employers to update key workplace documents.

If signed into law, the legislation would reinforce that important workplace protections cannot simply be waived through private agreements.

Did the Supreme Court End Transgender Sports Protections?

The Supreme Court answered a specific question about Title Nine and equal protection. It did not wipe every transgender-rights protection off the map. Other federal claims, state laws, and local protections may still matter, especially in New York.

Because one headline is rarely the whole rulebook.

The Supreme Court's recent sports decision is an important development, but it isn't the final word on transgender rights.

While the ruling addresses federal law, many states, including New York, have anti-discrimination laws that may provide additional protections. Ongoing cases continue to shape how those rights are applied.

Understanding both federal and state law is essential as this legal landscape continues to evolve.
