Last night was the Kings County Criminal Bar Association Annual Awards Dinner. Emily Campbell, the Firm's Founder and Managing Member, is a KCCBA Board Member and takes great pride in being part of this fantastic professional organization.

"What makes KCCBA special is that it brings together judges, prosecutors, criminal defense attorneys from the private bar (including those who serve on the 18B panel) and the defender organizations, court officers, court staff and all kinds of additional service providers -- from private investigators to non-profits working with those charged with crimes, as well as those coming out of detention. Brooklyn's legal community knows it takes all of these people to create a path to Justice, and that is what we all strive to achieve," Ms. Campbell commented.

"As one of the sponsors of this important annual event, I applaud all those honored last night and thank all those who attended either or both the cocktail party and dinner. What a great collegial evening!" said Ms. Campbell, smiling.

Emily Campbell, the Firm's Founder & Managing Member, is wearing a big smile as the lawyer who walked out of the US Courthouse for the Eastern District of NY (in Brooklyn) today with a favorable settlement for this Firm's clients!

"No one should underestimate the ability of a mediation-style process to move parties, who might otherwise be miles apart, closer together," said Ms. Campbell.

The Federal Court System offers settlement conferences to help resolve cases. Statistically speaking, most cases settle. It's a smart move to take advantage of the Court's settlement process, particularly if a relatively early settlement can be reached.

"Each party gets the unique opportunity to prepare an ex parte settlement statement and meet separately with a Magistrate to explain their respective positions. The Magistrate then goes back and forth with the parties separately to see if an agreement to settle the case can be reached. All parties and their counsel have to be present (or at least reachable by phone)," Ms. Campbell explained. "It's the rare occasion where you get to engage freely with the Court and empower the Magistrate to help move the needle upwards, if you are representing a Plaintiff, or if you are a defense attorney, to get the Plaintiff to be realistic."

"After a more than 3 hour meeting today, the parties in a case where my Firm represents multiple plaintiffs, alleging civil rights violations involving NYPD officers, settled the case in principle. There is still paperwork to be completed to complete the settlement, but this was a favorable outcome for our clients, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to be of service," Ms. Campbell said, smiling.

The tuition payments, distributions from trusts, etc. to compensate the people victimized in human trafficking enterprises may not trigger the same red flags that may be obvious pay-offs in other criminal enterprises, but presumably the algorithms can be trained differently with the wealth of information learned from the Epstein files.

24 Years & Counting!

In 2002, Emily Campbell, this law firm's Founder & Managing Member made a Bold Decision. She left the perceived comfort of large law firm life with all of its resources to build a boutique law firm in New York City.

"I embarked on my Adventure with a lot of Hope. I have traveled incredible paths I couldn’t have imagined when I started out. This wonderful Adventure has allowed me to build meaningful relationships with clients where the work I do really matters to them and has permitted me to learn and grow from many interesting legal experiences that came my way because 'Fate favors the Bold,'" Ms. Campbell said.

From successful corporate transactions, to beneficial litigation outcomes for our clients, to lending a hand to non-profits to support their missions, to victories against the Criminal Justice System for well-paying and also for indigent defendants, this law firm aims to be of service. This Firm strives to live up to its service mark -- its original and continuing mission of Empowering Clients Through The Practice of Law.

"People ask me how I got started," Ms. Campbell explained. "Well, my Mother believed I could make my law practice work, and she put her money where her mouth was. She provided an economic cushion for the first year of my on-my-own practice so I could get started and not immediately go into panic-mode, just taking whatever came in the door to 'make rent,' as they say. Because of this, I was able to strategically market my services through the platform that I created. I am grateful to her for her confidence in my abilities and Faith in the process of me growing into the professional I am now, where companies’ economic futures and people’s freedom depend on my skills to 'make it happen.'"

Ms. Campbell attributes her success, in part, to having her Grandfather’s sense for Opportunity and desire for fulfillment through Entrepreneurship. "Developing client relationships and keeping this law firm running all these years has been a rewarding entrepreneurial endeavor," said Ms. Campbell, "But it all started because I imagined the Possibilities."

"Law is the one profession that opens the most doors and ties it all together. The best thing about being a lawyer is that Law touches literally every industry so it’s never dull, and the sky’s the limit on Impact — truly," Ms. Campbell said.

"To be an Advocate — to use my Negotiation skills; to think Strategically and to be blessed with Responsibility where what I do 'matters' gives me a great feeling. I have been able to reinvent myself periodically, as well, and it has allowed me to be a life-long learner. For me, this is Blessing from the Universe," she said gratefully.

"My Journey so far has been filled with engaging work that challenges my Mind and keeps me motivated to serve. I thank my clients, colleagues, friends and family for their continued support of this law firm and my professional Journey. Thank you for believing in the work I am doing and for allowing me be of service in such a meaningful way. And a special shout-out goes to my Team; without these remarkable people who support the day-to-day work of my law firm, none of this would be possible," said Ms. Campbell, smiling.

This week, Emily Campbell, the Firm’s Founder & Managing Member, obtained a favorable plea arrangement for a client who had to be arraigned virtually from a Brooklyn hospital.

“This week was very challenging due to handling more than 30 criminal cases in 3 days. That is a lot, to be sure. Some of the cases were dealt with during my ‘18B arraignment shifts’, where I sign up to assist with handling cases for people charged with crimes, who might not otherwise be able to afford legal representation,” said Ms. Campbell, who is proud to be a member of the 18B Panel in Kings County.

“The work would be even harder if it were not for the great people who work for the Court System,” Ms. Campbell said. “Special shout out to the staff at the Kings County Criminal Courthouse who make the virtual hospital arraignments possible. So much behind-the-scenes work goes into setting up the private video booths and coordinating the effort; they make it run seamlessly!”

“The client accepted pleas to violations, which are not crimes, in connection with that challenging hospital arraignment. What a great outcome on both the felony & misdemeanor cases for the client; she can now focus on her health and not have criminal charges hanging over her head!” Ms. Campbell shared, smiling.

“The First Amendment is alive and well in as much as Bad Bunny had the World captivated at the Super Bowl Half-Time Show,” said Emily Campbell, the Firm’s Founder & Managing Member.

There was an alternative program going on simultaneously for those not interested in what this top entertainer was performing — and most significantly, reflecting in his performance. So people did have choices.

“I know the President is also exercising his free speech rights, making negative comments about the show, noted Ms. Campbell. “Still, Spotify has Bad Bunny as the top streamer for 4 of last 6 years. The numbers are hard to argue with.”

There can be no doubt that the performance, while entertaining, was political. Let’s all remember that PR is part of of the US, and the heritage it brings enhances our country.

Hats off to the Super Bowl organizers for permitting this ground-breaking performance by an Ace with great guests and a wedding party to boot!

His performance featured a sugar cane field, a wedding seemingly officiated onstage and a New York-style street scene, along with appearances by Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin.

“Another great Win of the Day!” announced Emily Campbell, the Firm’s Founder & Managing Member.

Ms. Campbell successfully argued for bail to be exhonerated and for the client to be released to Supervised Release through a program offered by Brooklyn Justice Initiatives (BJI).

The client had been at Rikers Island for about a week, and had bail set at an amount that was too high for his family to make.

“The client needed to be out to meaningfully assist in his defense, including gathering relevant information and locating witnesses. We will get a Private Investigator involved, but it is really helpful to have a client defending the case from the outside,” shared Ms. Campbell.

Ms. Campbell gathered the information to support an argument that the client should be out, and after a lengthy argument, the Judge agreed. The client turned to Ms.Campbell and gave her the first smile she had seen since he was put in.

“The Kings County District Attorney’s Office opposed the release to Supervised Release, but the Judge found there were multiple reasons to make this change. For that, we are very grateful,” Ms. Campbell said, smiling.

Emily Campbell, the Firm’s Founder and Managing Member, was pleased to share this victory in Parole Court today for a client.

“All parole charges, which were based on recently dismissed underlying felony drug charges, were dismissed,” shared Ms. Campbell. “The process took almost a year, but thankfully the client had been continuing on parole supervision and not simply sitting at Rikers the whole time. And now we know the client can remain in the community.”

“This set of parole charges were dismissed with prejudice, meaning DOCCS cannot bring those same charges again,” Ms. Campbell added, smiling.
