In 2019, while the federal government has rolled back protections for middle and low income Americans, New York has stepped into the vacuum with progressive new legislation.
Earlier this year, New York enacted new protections for tenants with the Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act of 2019. By overhauling the NYC Admin. Code and NY Real Property Law, this legislation will dramatically stem the loss of rent-protected apartment units.
Today, Governor Cuomo signed amendments to the New York State Human Rights Law which will prohibit employers from discriminating against job applicants and employees based on their religious attire and facial hair.
New York is forging ahead with progressive policies. Marc Rapaport, Meredith Miller, Karina Gulfo and Marcela Cabezas of Rapaport Law Firm and Miller Law take pride that we are at the forefront of enforcing these new protections!
Gov. Andrew Cuomo says the new law makes it "crystal clear to anyone who may still have doubts that New York has zero tolerance for bigotry of any kind."
