Our boutique law firm limits its practice to all aspects of Trusts and Estates and Elder Law including Estate planning and Estate Administration. As the current pandemic continues to unfold, now, more than ever, it is important to focus on critical estate planning issues. Lewis and Garbuz, P.C. has been virtually paperless for years now, which has enabled us to continue to virtually help our clients with all of their estate planning needs. In terms of finalizing estate planning documents, while previously it required an in person meetings to supervise, notarize and witness documents, we are now able to adapt to the new environment and offer virtual signings of these documents.
Virtual Notarization
On March 19, 2020, Governor Cuomo issued Executive Order 202.7 which allows for remote notarization in New York via audio-video technology. Our firm has already utilized technology to arrange for virtual notarization and has successfully supervised the signing of estate planning documents remotely.
Virtual Witnesses
On April 7, 2020, Governor Cuomo issued Executive Order 202.14 which allows for the witnessing estate planning documents via audio-video technology.
With the new Executive Orders in place, our firm can assist you with all of your estate planning needs virtually, without you ever leaving the safety of your home. During this difficult time, it is now more important than ever, to ensure that you have the appropriate estate planning documents in place and to ensure that all documents have been updated pursuant to constantly changing needs. These essential estate planning documents include but are not limited to, Last Wills and Testaments, Powers of Attorney, Health Care Proxies, HIPAA Releases, Living Wills and Trusts. Our firm knows firsthand of the importance of these documents during these uncertain times.
Estate Administration
Unfortunately, the need for estate administration is all too prevalent right now. Following the passing of a loved one, things can be hard and confusing. In addition to catering to your estate planning needs, Lewis and Garbuz, P.C. regularly handles estate administration. We are here to help you through every step of the process. While Courts continue to limit the filing of certain petitions, there are some filings that are being accepted by the Surrogate’s Court. Regardless, Lewis and Garbuz, P.C. can begin working with you to ensure that all filings are ready once the Surrogate’s Courts reopen.
