Number of Legionnaires' Disease Cases Climbs to 46

FOX 5 reported that, as of July 9, the NYC Health Department reported 46 cases of Legionnaires' disease in the Upper East Side neighborhoods of Carnegie Hill and Yorkville (ZIP codes 10028, 10128, and 10075), with 22 people hospitalized. This is an increase from the previous day, when 28 cases and 21 hospitalizations had been reported.

The first two cases were confirmed on July 2. There have been no deaths reported so far.

According to the agency, the disease is not linked to the plumbing system, so residents can still cook, shower, bathe, drink tap water, and use air conditioners. They also said common sources of exposure to Legionnaires' may come from cooling towers, hot tubs, and spray fountains.
