Normandy has always held a special place in my heart. When I was a junior in high school, then-LCDR Gene Black took me on a tour of and gave me this patch from the 50th anniversary. It was during that ship tour that I decided that I wanted to go to the . After graduation, I was fortunate to be assigned to USS Normandy, where I served for 3 years and two deployments. Ten years ago, I took my then-fiancé to Normandy to celebrate the 70th anniversary with in an incredibly moving experience where we met and listened to stories from one of the landing craft drivers. I wrote an article about the experience (link in bio). Though I was unable to make the 80th anniversary this year, we very much want to go back again.

Today, as every Memorial Day, I will be thinking of these men, who I had the privilege of meeting, knowing, and learning from while at the . Friends, classmates, teachers, mentors, and all heroes. We all joined pre-9/11 and trained together for a potential war, without knowing whether one may come. Some were killed in training, most were killed in action, all did the job with enthusiasm and passion to help keep us all safe and free. I hope everyone enjoys their Memorial Day and lives a life worthy of their sacrifice.

22 years ago today, our class graduated from the and were commissioned as Ensigns and 2nd Lieutenants in the Navy and Marine Corps. We were the first class to graduate after 9/11 and the first class to graduate during a time of war since Vietnam. Over the next two decades of war, while I moved on to a career in law, several of my classmates performed some incredibly heroic acts on behalf of our great nation. Here is Commissioning, where I am getting my new rank put on by my grandmother, who served as an officer in the US Coast Guard during WWII.

Just over 8 years ago, I made the significant decision to shut down my solo practice and join FisherBroyles, LLP as a partner. Though we ultimately parted ways based on our diverging client bases, I remain a big fan of the distributed law firm model pioneered by Kevin Broyles and James Fisher which I have largely incorporated into Parlatore Law Group with a few tweaks.

The cloud-based or distributed law firm model removes all the unnecessary overhead and expenses associated with traditional brick-and-mortar firms to significantly reduce the cost to clients, while also increasing the percentage of revenue that goes to compensate the individual attorneys. The clients pay less while the attorneys take home more and the only entities who lose out are the commercial landlords.

As discussed in this article, we use a sliding scale compensation structure, which allows our attorneys to keep an even higher percentage of their revenue as they hit certain wickets throughout the year, maxing out at 95%. We also serve an entirely different client base from FisherBroyles, focusing on individual clients, entrepreneurs and growing businesses.

Welcome back to the Big Law Business column. I’m Roy Strom, and today we look at how virtual law firm spin-offs increase competition and broaden the offerings available to partners.

I have a few thoughts on Mark Milley after the recent puff piece about him being a supposed defender of the Constitution. His story about pushing tribal retribution against my client after he had been found Not Guilty by a jury of his peers is reprehensible and disgusting.

“Counsel ought to be the very last thing that an accused Person should want in a free Country. That the Bar ought in my opinion to be independent and impartial at all times and in every circumstance. And that persons whose lives were at stake ought to have the counsel they preferred.

But he must be sensible this would be as important a cause as ever was tried in any court or country of the world and that every lawyer must hold himself responsible not only to his country, but to the highest and most infallible of all tribunals for the part he should act. He must therefore expect from me no art or address, no sophistry or prevarication in such a cause; nor any thing more than Fact, Evidence and Law would justify.“

Great discussion this morning on Meet the Press

As Special Counsel investigations into former President Trump approach a potential indictment, "irreconcilable conflicts" led attorney Timothy Parlatore to leave the Trump legal defense team. He discusses the cases Trump faces thus far on Meet the Press with Chuck Todd.
