JW Michaels & Co. has opened its 2026 Privacy, Cyber & AI Legal Compensation Survey.

The survey covers in-house legal roles across privacy, cybersecurity and AI governance. It asks about base salary, bonus, equity and other pay, along with how these teams are structured and where they report.

Responses are confidential and reported only in aggregate. Everyone who takes part gets early access to the results before the 2026 guide is released in November.

JW Michaels & Co. is partnering with a roughly $10B AUM hedge fund on a retained, exclusive search for a Convertible Bond Trader Analyst at its Minneapolis headquarters.

The analyst will work directly with the CEO and senior PMs on investment theses, issuer due diligence, deal flow, and trading. The ideal candidate has traded converts, Delta One, or preferreds and spent at least two years on the sell side, ideally through a rotation at a top bank. On-site. $150K to $200K base plus bonus.

New in our Captains of Industry series: Lawrence Brown sits down with Christopher Y. Chan, General Counsel of JLL Technologies.

Chris has led 70 lawyers across 15 countries, built a legal function through an Alibaba Group acquisition, and now leads legal strategy for AI at JLL Technologies.

His view on why in-house lawyers get labeled the blocker or the rubber stamp: "Show up before you're asked. The blocker reputation comes from lawyers who only appear at the end, when the only tools left are yes or no."

And the one test he wants every lawyer using before acting on AI: "Ask whether you'd still be comfortable defending the decision if it turned out you were wrong."

Today we honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost that day, the first responders who ran toward the danger, and the many who have died since from 9/11-related illnesses.

A major financial services platform is hiring its first-ever Chief Privacy Officer, and JW Michaels & Co. is leading the search.

This is a build-from-scratch mandate. You'll own the privacy program end to end, from data mapping and classification to training and tooling, across a footprint spanning the US, Canada, LatAm, the UK, the EU, and APAC. You'll also advise leadership on AI governance as the firm expands its AI adoption, putting real workflows in place rather than just drafting policy.

What we're looking for:

• J.D. and active bar admission
• 8+ years combining law firm and in-house experience
• Hands-on experience building or running a privacy program
• Practical AI governance and implementation experience
• International privacy exposure

BigLaw training and financial services or asset management experience are strongly preferred.
