Long Island dwellers and passersby be advised: mobile work-zone speed cameras are being deployed on the Long Island Expressway. NYSDOT’s schedule for October 4–10, 2026 lists the eastbound LIE between Exits 49 and 53. That is a scheduled deployment; the exact location and operating hours can change.
These cameras operate in construction or maintenance zones, with warning signs, and move between locations. Tickets are mailed to the vehicle’s registered owner: $50 for the first violation, $75 for the second, and $100 for subsequent violations within 18 months. They carry no driver’s-license points and are not reported to insurance companies.
The camera-ticket threshold is more than 10 mph above the posted limit, under New York Vehicle and Traffic Law §1180-e(b).
