Jury selection can set the foundation for an entire trial.

On Friday, September 4, 2026, Ben Rubinowitz, Managing Partner of Gair, Gair, Conason, Rubinowitz, Bloom, Hershenhorn, Steigman & Mackauf, will join Michael Kelly for TLU Beach 2026 REPLAY – Jury Selection, presented by Trial Lawyers University.

The program will explore strategies for questioning prospective jurors about pain and suffering, economic loss, medical maintenance, wrongful death, comparative fault and other challenging issues that can influence a jury trial.

Ben and Michael will also discuss how effective voir dire can help lay the groundwork for a substantial award and how jurors’ own answers during jury selection can later be incorporated into summation.

Ben regularly teaches trial advocacy to attorneys across the country, drawing on decades of experience trying complex personal injury and medical malpractice cases before New York juries.

The fatal hit-and-run that killed 22-year-old Destiny Murrell in Greenwich Village demonstrates why a top New York car accident law firm should be contacted immediately after a driver flees an accident.
Murrell, a Brooklyn resident, was crossing West Washington Place in a crosswalk at approximately 5:00 a.m. on August 23, 2026, when she was struck by a driver who fled the scene. Police said the vehicle, described as gray and possibly an SUV, traveled north on Sixth Avenue before turning onto Waverly Place.

We are proud to announce that Richard M. Steigman, partner at Gair, Gair, Conason, Rubinowitz, Bloom, Hershenhorn, Steigman & Mackauf, has been named the 2027 Best Lawyers® “Lawyer of the Year” for Personal Injury Litigation – Plaintiffs in New York City.
This marks Richard’s second Best Lawyers® “Lawyer of the Year” distinction. He was previously named the 2022 “Lawyer of the Year” for Medical Malpractice Law – Plaintiffs in New York City, recognizing his work across two major areas of plaintiffs’ litigation.

The honor follows Richard’s pivotal role alongside Managing Partner Ben B. Rubinowitz as lead trial counsel in the landmark Metro-North Valhalla train crash litigation. After a six-week trial, a Westchester County jury found Metro-North 71% responsible for the collision. The liability victory ultimately paved the way for settlements exceeding $182 million for the families of five passengers who were killed and dozens of passengers who were injured.

Richard was also part of the trial team that secured a $120 million medical malpractice verdict in Westchester County, ranked the #1 verdict in New York State across all practice areas in 2023.

From beginning his career with our firm as a paralegal to becoming a partner and serving as lead trial counsel in some of New York’s most complex cases, Richard has dedicated his career to advocating for seriously injured individuals and their families.

Congratulations to Richard on this exceptional and well-deserved recognition.

Laborers, carpenters, ironworkers, painters, roofers, equipment operators and other construction workers can suffer catastrophic injuries when they come into contact with energized wiring, power lines, defective tools or improperly maintained electrical systems.

There’s a reason clients love working with Diana Carnemolla.

Time and again, clients describe Diana not only as a fierce and formidable advocate, but as someone who genuinely cares about the people and families she represents.

She brings an exceptional combination of strength, compassion, tenacity, and personal attention to every case. She fights relentlessly for her clients while understanding the very difficult circumstances that brought them to us in the first place.

This recent review captures that relationship beautifully. After experiencing an unimaginable family tragedy, the clients described Diana as a true “mama bear” — protective, compassionate, and a fierce defender.

They praised her courtroom strength and strategic approach, but what stands out most is how cared for they felt throughout the entire process.

Their final words say it best:

“You were the key.”

We are proud of the extraordinary relationships Diana builds with her clients and grateful to this family for sharing their experience.

A devastating explosion and five-alarm fire tore through a residential apartment building in the Bronx this week, leaving one person dead, multiple residents critically injured, and many families displaced from their homes. According to FDNY officials, the powerful blast caused portions of the building to collapse, blowing out windows and doors before flames rapidly spread throughout the structure. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation. https://www.newyorkpersonalinjuryattorneysblog.com/bronx-building-explosion-leaves-1-dead-and-15-injured-can-victims-file-a-lawsuit/

Every case tells a story, but the stories that stay with us the longest are those shared by our clients.

Recently, we received a heartfelt review from a client who entrusted Diana M.A. Carnemolla, Esq. and Howard S. Hershenhorn with representing their family during one of the most difficult times in their lives.

While we are proud of the results we achieve in the courtroom, reviews like this remind us that our work is about much more than verdicts and settlements. It's about earning our clients' trust, providing guidance when they need it most, and standing beside them every step of the way.

For more than 100 years, Gair, Gair, Conason, Rubinowitz, Bloom, Hershenhorn, Steigman & Mackauf has represented victims of catastrophic injuries, medical malpractice, construction accidents, transportation accidents, and wrongful death throughout New York. We remain committed to providing every client with exceptional legal representation and the personal attention they deserve.

We are sincerely grateful to our client for sharing their experience and for recognizing the dedication of Diana and Howard. Their words are a meaningful reminder of why we do what we do.
