My co-counsel and I just received an email informing us that Pam Bondi has decided not to seek the death penalty for our client. We previously presented evidence to a panel of federal prosecutors regarding our client’s life and background and the circumstances of his alleged crime, and evidently the Attorney General and Department of Justice has concluded that our client does not deserve capital punishment.

This is totally unrelated to our law practice, but we are pretty proud of the starting right fullback for the US Youth Soccer league Eastern Regional champions (U13 girls). She and her squad will be competing against three other teams in the national championship series in Orlando in a few weeks. Last year’s championship game was televised on ESPN.

A few years ago I had a case with Danielle, who just tendered her resignation as interim US Attorney of the Southern District of New York. (Aside from the job of Attorney General, this is basically the most prestigious prosecutor job in the world.) She was super smart and really good at her job. Bravo to her for refusing to dump a meritorious case for such a blatantly corrupt and cynical reason as the one given by the DOJ.

The interim U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York and two officials with the federal public integrity unit all quit after the Justice Department ordered the charges against Mayor Eric Adams to be dropped.
