DHC joined SCO Family of Services for its Foster Parent Appreciation Brunch, held at SCO’s Ottilie Residential Treatment Facility.

The event paid tribute to foster parents whose compassion, commitment, and willingness to open their homes help change the lives of children and families every day. DHC’s Senior Director, Government Relations, Melissa Chapman-Samad, attended in support of SCO and the foster care community.

NYC Council Member Shanel Thomas-Henry delivered an uplifting keynote address, recognizing the vital role foster parents play in building stronger communities and supporting children in need.

“Strong communities are built by people who choose to show up for one another, especially when it’s difficult; and that is exactly what foster parents do every single day,” said Council Member Thomas-Henry.

SCO Family of Services is the largest nonprofit human services provider in the region and the largest foster care provider in New York State, with locations across New York City and Long Island.

Washington, D.C. – Helen Keller National Center for DeafBlind Youths and Adults (HKNC) representatives, joined by DHC’s Jonathan McCollum, Chair of Federal Government Relations, and James (Jake) Roach, Associate Director of Federal Government Relations, met with U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, Chairman of the Senate HELP Committee, to advocate for expanded support for DeafBlind individuals nationwide.

HKNC representatives recently met with Members of Congress to highlight the critical vocational, rehabilitation, and workforce development services HKNC provides to DeafBlind youth and adults across the country.

As the only national organization providing comprehensive services for DeafBlind individuals, HKNC continues to advocate for increased federal support to expand access, strengthen the workforce pipeline, and help individuals live and work independently in communities nationwide.
