25 years on, this city still counts the people it lost.

There is no version of practicing law in New York that is separate from that morning. Our colleagues, our neighbors and our clients carry it.

Today we are not marketing anything. We are remembering the 2,977 people killed, the responders who ran toward the towers, and the families who are still living with the absence.

Today is for the people who build this city and keep it running.

Labor Day was not created as the last barbecue of summer. It was won by workers who wanted a day that belonged to them.

The people we represent are usually the ones who were on a roof, a scaffold or a loading dock when something failed. They did not get a day off. They got a hospital.

Who is responsible for the sidewalk you fell on?

Usually not the City. Under New York City law the owner of the building next to the sidewalk is the one required to keep it in reasonable repair, which means your claim is generally against that owner rather than the municipality.

The exception is small buildings: a one, two or three family home the owner actually lives in stays the City's responsibility.

Which one applies decides who you sue, and how long you have to do it.

Your scan came back clean. That does not mean you are fine.

Brain injuries are called the invisible trauma for a reason. Jeff Korek is blunt about the limits: MRI, CAT and PET scans do not always pick up a brain that has clearly been interfered with.

Invisible does not mean absent. It means the proof has to come from people rather than pictures.

If someone in your family has not been the same since, that difference is evidence.
