We're proud to be publishing “The Rhythm of Reform” by Michael Waldman in Volume 47 of Cardozo Law Review!

Michael Waldman is President and CEO of the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law. A nonpartisan law and policy institute that focuses on improving systems of democracy and justice, the Brennan Center is a leading national voice on voting rights, money in politics, criminal justice reform, and constitutional law. Waldman has led the Center since 2005. He is the author of eight books, including The Supermajority: How the Supreme Court Divided America, The Fight to Vote, and The Second Amendment. Previously, Waldman was Director of Speechwriting for President Bill Clinton from 1995 to 1999, serving as Assistant to the President. Waldman was a member of the Presidential Commission on the Supreme Court of the United States.

We're proud to be publishing “Autonomous Contracts and Transformative Justice: Practicing Family Law Without Court Intervention” by D Dangaran & Andy Izenson in Volume 47 of Cardozo Law Review!

D Dangaran is an Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, where they teach and research Constitutional Law, Civil Rights, and Family Law. Their scholarship applies “abolitionist q***r theory,” critiquing the carceral state from a q***r/trans-centered frame. Their Essay, Bending Gender: Disability Justice, Abolitionist Q***r Theory, and ADA Claims for Gender Dysphoria, received a 2025 Dukeminier Award. Before teaching, they were the Director of Gender Justice at Rights Behind Bars, where they specialized in helping incarcerated trans people access gender-affirming care and safer housing conditions. D serves as co-chair of the National Trans Bar Association.

Andy (they/he) is the Senior Legal Director of Chosen Family Law Center and Partner at Diana Adams Law & Mediation, where they provide direct attorney and mediation services in the field of q***r and chosen family law, trans autonomy, and end-of-life agency, as well as extensive education around restorative and transformative justice. Andy is a member of the National Lawyers Guild, including a ten-year service on the NYC Chapter’s Executive Board and three years as President, the Family Law Institute of the National LGBT Bar Association, and the Rêve, the trans anarchist commune which they co-founded and on which they currently live with their own chosen family. Andy’s writing can be found in a variety of law journals and movement publications, including the Advocate, Scarleteen, and the Texas Journal on Civil Liberties and Civil Rights, and their first poetry collection was published by Listen To Your Skin Press earlier this year.

Shahar Lifsh*tz is a Professor of Law at Bar-Ilan University and the Chair of the Menomadin Center. He is a former Dean of the Faculty of Law at Bar-Ilan University and serves as an ad hoc advisor to the Israeli Ministry of Justice on legislative projects. His research focuses on family law, contract law, and the behavioral analysis of law.

Maldonado is the Eleanor Bontecou Professor of Law at Seton Hall University School of Law. She is an Associate Reporter for the American Law Institute’s Restatement of the Law, Children and the Law, and co-editor of Family Law: Cases and Materials (Foundation Press). She is also the author of The Architecture of Desire: How the Law Shapes In*******al Intimacy and Perpetuates Inequality (NYU Press, 2024).
