Attorney Thomas Lamadrid discusses the deposition of Donald Trump on CNN's New Day

“Trump answered questions under oath for about 4.5 hours on Monday in a deposition about a 2015 alleged assault at Trump Tower. “If you’ve seen ... the way he responds to the press, it wasn’t so different” from that, says Thomas Lamadrid, one of the lawyers who deposed Trump. https://t.co/...

“We can report at this time that Donald John Trump sat for approximately four and half hours under oath and answered questions concerning the events that occurred outside of Trump Tower on September 3, 2015,” lawyer Benjamin Dictor said in a statement.

“While we will not comment on the substance of Mr. Trump’s testimony at this time, we hope today’s events serve as an example that our institutions have prevailed and no one is above the law,” he said."

Former President Donald Trump answered questions under oath for approximately four and a half hours on Monday at Trump Tower in Manhattan, according to an attorney representing the activists who sued him for an alleged assault by guards at the Fifth Avenue building which housed his campaign headquarters in 2015.

Benjamin Dictor of Eisner Dictor & Lamadrid, who is representing the activists alongside Nathaniel Charny of Charny & Wheeler and Roger J. Bernstein, said the questions concerned “the events that occurred outside of Trump Tower on Sept. 3, 2015.”

The deposition was seen as a sign of progress in the suit, more than six years after it was filed by a group describing themselves as “human rights activists of Mexican origin.”

"Trump’s demeanor in answering questions matched that of his public persona while president and the session proceeded like most depositions, said Dictor, the plaintiffs’ lawyer. He declined to go into detail about how Trump handled the questioning and refused to characterize his testimony before presenting the case to a jury.

“While we will not comment on the substance of Mr. Trump’s testimony at this time, we hope today’s events serve as an example that our institutions have prevailed and no one is above the law,” Dictor said."

Benjamin N. Dictor, an attorney for the protesters, said: “We are pleased with the Appellate Division’s decision and look forward to presenting Mr. Trump’s testimony at trial, as would be expected from any adverse party in litigation.”

Trump had tried to quash a subpoena that would force him to testify—but a N.Y. court just dismissed his appeal as moot since he’s no longer a sitting president.

But on Thursday, Bonnema’s lawyer Ben Dictor said the company’s quick reinstatement showed the spokesperson’s statement—which appeared in many national outlets including CNN and The Washington Post—was ultimately false. (Dictor is a labor attorney who also represents the NewsGuild, a media workers’ union that represents staffers at many outlets, including The Daily Beast’s editorial union).

“While we are pleased that Mr. Bonnema has been rightfully reinstated, we will continue to take all necessary legal action to repair his reputation that has been disparaged by the company through false accusations that my client engaged in misconduct,” Dictor said. “We are also committed to ensuring that no essential workers of Trader Joe’s face any further retaliation for raising concerns about their working conditions.”

“It was a completely unlawful termination,” reinstated staffer Ben Bonnema said Thursday morning.
