My firm along with Law Offices of Zachary Margulis-Ohnuma has filed our lawsuit against the NYPD for the shooting death of Miguel Antonio Richards. We intend to get justice for Miguel and his family and to hopefully shine light on the lethal lack of training the NYPD is given in dealing with mentally ill people in crisis.

The first fatal police shooting captured on NYPD body worn cameras and released to the public in an effort to show cops' "discretion and restraint" has nonetheless resulted in a lawsuit.

The NYPD is failing to train its officers that this is not acceptable. Even worse, the convictions based on these lies can lead to promotions. The story notes that many of the officers caught in lies have since been promoted, and in my experience this is common. Ambitious officers that seek convictions at any cost accumulate good stats and succeed. And when they are found untruthful, it is buried in a sealed case.

A finding of untruthfulness by an NYPD officer should be a dark stain on their personnel file that does not easily wash out. Until the NYPD through their own polices and practices makes it clear that lying under oath is unacceptable, the lies will continue.

Police lying persists, even amid an explosion of video evidence that has allowed the public to test officers’ credibility.

The government wanted Shkreli to be sentenced to 15 years. His attorney portrayed his humanity and got him 7. And just reading the story it's easy to see why.

Every client has a story to tell that can make a huge difference at sentencing. This is why the fight doesn't end with a guilty verdict.

Mr. Shkreli, notorious for sharply increasing drug prices and for his attention-seeking antics online, was convicted last year of defrauding investors.
