Navigating Social Security disability can be especially challenging when you're already managing chronic illness or multiple disability symptoms.

Safwat’s experience highlights the difference experienced representation can make when a case involves multiple conditions, a hearing, and the Appeals Council.

At American Disability Advocates, we understand the importance of strong SSDI evidence, careful preparation, and support throughout every stage of the process.

Thank you, Safwat, for trusting our team and sharing your experience. 💙

If you’re facing a denial or considering an appeal, you don’t have to navigate the process alone.

A diagnosis alone doesn't always tell the full story of how a condition affects your ability to work.

When evaluating a disability claim, Social Security may consider functional limitations, how your condition affects what you can do on a regular basis.

This can include difficulty:
• Standing or walking for extended periods
• Lifting or carrying
• Sitting for long periods
• Concentrating or staying focused
• Completing tasks consistently

These everyday limitations can help provide a clearer picture of how your condition impacts your ability to work.

Understanding what information matters can be an important part of navigating SSDI requirements and disability eligibility.

When applying for Social Security disability benefits, your diagnosis is only part of the picture.

In simple terms, RFC describes what you are still able to do despite your medical conditions and limitations.

When evaluating a Social Security disability claim, the SSA considers RFC to understand how your condition affects your ability to perform work-related activities; not just your diagnosis.

For example, RFC may consider your ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, concentrate, or follow instructions.

Understanding your RFC can be an important part of the SSDI eligibility and SSI benefits process.

September is Healthy Aging Month, a great opportunity to highlight an important consideration for people navigating Social Security Disability benefits.

As we age, long-term health conditions may affect our ability to work and can create additional challenges when applying for SSDI. Age is also one of the factors Social Security considers when evaluating whether someone can adjust to other types of work based on their limitations, experience, and skills.

Understanding how these factors may affect your claim can help you better understand the disability process and what to expect.

Have questions about SSDI or SSI? Education is an important first step.

Wondering whether you may qualify for Social Security Disability benefits?

Eligibility can depend on several factors, including the severity of your condition, how it affects your ability to work, your work history, and whether you meet Social Security’s disability requirements.

Understanding the process can be challenging, especially when you're already navigating a disability or limitation.

We’re always looking for opportunities to deepen our knowledge and stay informed on the latest developments affecting disability claims and evaluations.

That’s why our team is proud to attend the 2026 ICA Annual Education Conference, taking place September 13–16.

Events like these provide valuable opportunities to learn, connect with industry professionals, and strengthen our understanding of the evolving landscape surrounding Social Security disability, SSDI eligibility, SSI benefits, disability evaluation, and RFC.

For us, continued learning is part of our commitment to providing informed, thoughtful advocacy for the people we serve.

📍 We look forward to connecting with fellow professionals at

You Matter. Support Matters.
September is Su***de Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness, encourage meaningful conversations, and remind people that support is available.

For the disability community, mental health and emotional well-being deserve particular attention. CDC research found that adults with disabilities were 2–3 times more likely to report suicidal thoughts than adults without disabilities, while reported mental distress was also significantly higher.
These numbers remind us why compassion, connection, and access to support resources matter.

As we recognize World Su***de Prevention Day on September 10, let's make space for conversations about mental health and check in with the people around us. Sometimes, simply listening and letting someone know they are not alone can be an important first step.

If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, call or text 988 immediately. You can also access the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline online.

Let's continue working toward a community where asking for help is met with understanding, compassion, and support.

This Labor Day, we honor every journey.

Work can look different for everyone. For some, a career may be shaped by disability, illness, or circumstances that make continuing to work difficult or impossible.

This Labor Day, we recognize the strength and resilience of those navigating these challenges and the importance of creating a world where accessibility, opportunity, and support are available to all.

Disability awareness and advocacy help ensure that people understand their rights and know where to turn when they need support, including when navigating Social Security benefits.

Today, we honor every worker, every journey, and every path forward.

Waiting for a disability decision can be one of the most difficult parts of the process. The uncertainty, long timelines, and unanswered questions can take an emotional toll, but you're not alone.

While you wait, there are a few important things you can do to help stay prepared:
✔️ Continue attending your medical appointments.
✔️ Follow your prescribed treatment plan whenever possible.
✔️ Keep copies of new medical records, test results, and provider visits.
✔️ Stay organized by saving any correspondence related to your claim.

Every disability claim is unique, and waiting doesn't mean your case has been forgotten. Taking care of your health and keeping your records current can help you stay prepared throughout the process.

Women's Equality Day is a time to celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of women while recognizing that the pursuit of equality continues. 💜

For many women living with disabilities, chronic illnesses, or caregiving responsibilities, equal opportunity also means having access to the resources, support, and legal advocacy they need to move forward with confidence.

Everyone deserves the opportunity to understand their rights, navigate the disability benefits process, and access the support available to them. By raising ADA awareness and championing disability rights, we can help build a more inclusive and accessible future for all.

Today, we honor the women who continue to advocate for themselves, their families, and their communities. Your resilience inspires change every day.
