The Right to Housing Litigation Clinic spent this last Friday supporting local Oaxacan restaurant, La Morada. Professor Norrinda Brown gathered with research assistants, Fall 2023 students, and Spring 2024 students to recap the semester and anticipate the upcoming one.
La Morada, owned by the Mendez family, is a foundational community resource for refugees and migrants arriving in New York City. In addition to the 600 meals a day La Morada’s mutual aid kitchen serves, the family’s activism expands to thoughtful art rooted in indigenous stories. Recently, Natalia Mendez launched her second book, “The Sisters of Milpa, Longing for the Corn,” an indigenous cookbook that includes personal stories.
Thanks to La Morada for hosting and all the wonderful food!
