Construction work helps build and maintain Queens, but the job can expose workers to serious hazards every day.

Falls from scaffolds and ladders, falling objects, machinery accidents, electrical hazards, and unsafe worksite conditions can result in life-changing injuries. After an accident, injured workers may have questions about medical bills, lost wages, workers’ compensation, and whether another party may be responsible.

At Hofmann & Schweitzer, we help injured Queens construction workers understand their rights and the legal options that may be available.

After a serious maritime accident, a vessel owner may try to limit how much they can be held liable for—even when the injuries or losses are substantial.

Under the Limitation of Liability Act, a vessel owner may seek to limit liability to the post-voyage value of the vessel and its freight when the incident occurred without the owner's "privity or knowledge." For an injured seaman or maritime worker, responding to this action can be critical to protecting a claim.

At Hofmann & Schweitzer, we have handled hundreds of Limitation of Liability Act actions and claims involving this defense.

A significant victory for our client: Hofmann & Schweitzer successfully opposed Atlantic Cape Fisheries’ motion for summary judgment, allowing our client’s case to move forward.

When a defendant asks the court to dismiss a case before trial, the outcome can determine whether an injured maritime worker gets the opportunity to continue pursuing their claims. In this matter, the court denied Atlantic Cape Fisheries’ request for summary judgment.

Coal cargo can create dangers at sea that crews may not be able to see or smell.

Coal may emit flammable methane, produce toxic carbon monoxide as it self-heats, and deplete oxygen in enclosed areas. Without proper monitoring and safety precautions, these conditions can put maritime workers at risk of explosions, fires, toxic exposure, and suffocation.

At Hofmann & Schweitzer, we help injured maritime workers understand their rights when dangerous cargo conditions contribute to an injury or illness.

A cyberattack at sea can do much more than compromise data. It can put maritime workers in physical danger.

Malware, hacked navigation systems, GPS spoofing, and compromised engine or safety controls can contribute to collisions, groundings, falls, cargo accidents, and other serious incidents aboard a vessel.

At Hofmann & Schweitzer, we help injured maritime workers understand their rights when emerging risks such as cybersecurity failures contribute to an accident.
