“USCIS rolls out New ❌Signature Policy applicable to all type of Forms being submitted to the agency with applications/petitions”

Key pointers:
- Effective July 10, 2026
- Scan copy of original wet signatures form page permitted
- Original if requested later by USCIS and is not available, the case can be denied based on this basic deficiency
- Fees will not be refunded

Best practice:
- Submit original wet-signed signature pages like the old days

Please note the implications on
any petitions like I-485 due to this signature issue could be between getting your permanent residency v. status issues due to denial.

05/24/2026

The Trump administration announced a major policy shift forcing green card applicants to use consular processing abroad instead of adjusting status within the U.S. This change impacts roughly 780,000 applicants annually, though widespread confusion remains. Nearly half of these applicants come from countries already facing U.S. entry bans, leading officials to quickly walk back the initial announcement by promising upcoming exemptions and acknowledging the policy only applies where overseas consular processing is actually available. Contact our team at immigrant2us for legal guidance through all of this legal news.

New Restrictions on I-485!!!

USCIS announces a policy for green-card applicants to apply at U.S. consulates abroad, making I-485 Adjustment of Status (AOS) to receive the green-card within the US only possible under “extraordinary circumstances". This change impacts all applicants whether using employment or relative based routes including applicants marrying US Citizens.

Implications also could be for current pending I-485s.
