Justicia Lab is Pro Bono Net’s immigrant justice technology lab, and a nonprofit legal tech initiative whose mission is to transform immigrant justice through collaboration, creativity, and technology. We work hand in hand with immigrants and their advocates to identify common challenges and incubate scalable digital tools to advance help immigrants navigate our immigration system, find workplace

justice, and more. Our tools prioritize collaborative and equitable design, data privacy, and language justice and provide critical resources and capacity to where they’re needed the most.

Today , a program of , announces the launch of (www.justicialab.ai), a new AI innovation lab in the service of immigrant justice! ✨

The Justicia Lab AI initiative seeks to bridge the tech divide between immigrant-serving organizations and developers of AI technology by delivering public education and workshops on AI, providing information on the ethical and practical considerations in using AI technologies, and co-designing AI solutions.

Our aim is to both empower the field and bring together immigrant advocacy groups and technology industry partners to advance immigrant justice and bring innovation to hard to reach communities. Our founding partners include representatives from , , , CLINIC, , , , , , and .

Justicia Lab AI is being supported with $500,000 in seed funding from Google.org as well as technical capacity, mentorship, and pro bono support delivered through Google.org’s inaugural Gen AI Accelerator for nonprofits.

Exciting news: 's was selected as 1 of 12 innovative tech nonprofits to participate in Fast Forward's 2024 Startup Accelerator! 🎉

This month was honored to take part in Org'a first Generative AI Accelerator for organizations seeking to deploy advanced AI solutions address some of society’s greatest challenges. For the next 6 months we’ll be joining 21 other social impact organizations from around the world in developing cutting-edge solutions to tackle longstanding humanitarian and social challenges. 2023 has been a banner year for labor rights but there is one group that is the most vulnerable to exploitation, often placed in the most precarious and unsafe working conditions and given the least recourse – immigrant and other low-wage workers in America.

We're proud of the work we were able to do with workplace justice partners to build the first iteration of ¡Reclamo!, our digital tool to combat wage theft. To date we have been able to:

1️⃣ Help immigrant workers in New York state’s building and construction sector to calculate and file over $1.5 million in wage theft claims
2️⃣ Build partnerships and helped train over 50 non-lawyer advocates at worker centers across New York State.
3️⃣ Raise awareness of the wage theft issue in America through national op-eds, interviews, and press coverage in Telemundo, NPR, Fast Company, and The Guardian.
