OHIO TRAIN DERAIMENT LAWSUIT

On February 3, 2023 a disastrous train derailment occurred on the Norfork Southern Railway in East Palestine, Ohio, near the Pennsylvania border, putting the lives of thousands and thousands of people in grave danger.

Emergency crews conducted a “controlled burn” of the hazardous waste, which caused vinyl chloride, benzene residue and other carcinogenic compounds to be released into the air and water, prompting an evacuation of homes and businesses throughout a 30-mile radius.

Vinyl chloride is classified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a Group A human carcinogen – the most dangerous to human health. The EPA noted that more than double the amount of vinyl chloride that all industrial emitters release in the United States COMBINED over the course of one year was released as a result of this derailment and subsequent “controlled burn.”

Multiple lawsuits have already been filed against Norfolk Southern’s including its efforts to clean up and mitigate the disaster which allegedly have actually worsened the situation.
