Trees buds are popping, daffodils are already up, and other plants are poking through the ground...but be aware of the temperatures! Hard freeze is not unusual this time of year, especially in our area.

I was always told to wait until Mother's Day in CT for any sensitive planting. Average last frost on the shoreline is the last week of April. In Litchfield County is closer to the second week of May. Tougher stuff can survive, but CT spring can be unforgiving!

Some of the barns with quilts are in the Northville neighborhood. Do you know where?

Energy demands are stressing the electric grid in Connecticut and elsewhere. But, the BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) that are being built in residential zoned areas are a problem, not a solution. These facilities should not be in residential zones.

If you look at the photograph that accompanies the article from CTInsider/Hearst Newspapers, that facility is in Texas and most likely not close to a residential area.

The facility that Flatiron Energy wants to place in New Milford on Aspetuck Ridge Road is a residential R40 zone. The noise levels, the impact to wetlands, the impact to wildlife, the impact to residents who live in that area cannot be understated. It will be a large impact.

There are two projects under study: a 142-megawatt system in New Milford and a 205-megawatt system in Bridgeport.

Flatiron Proposed Battery Storage Project -
I wanted to follow up with an update regarding this proposed project. Flatiron will be hosting two open houses on January 8th and January 21st, both at the Sarah Noble School.
As Flatiron was invited to our Jan 12th Town Council Meeting, they asked if they could present to the Town Council at our Jan 26th Town Council meeting. Thank you to Dr. Parlato for having the meetings at SNIS and our Jan. 26th Town Council meeting at NMHS. On our Jan 26th Town Council agenda, we will be having a " Workshop" on this proposal, which will include members of the zoning, inland/ wetlands, and town council members here for a presentation and to answer questions from Flatiron concerning this project. We are asking all interested New Milford residents to attend this meeting and speak during public comment, which is at the beginning of the meeting.
Since Flatiron will not be at the Jan 12th Town Council meeting, we will be having our meeting at the E Paul Martin Room at 7pm.
We invite the public to attend the Town Council meeting, and if you would like to speak, you can do so during public participation.
You can also view the Town Council meetings on our Town YouTube page.
If you have a question concerning the project, you can go to the Town Website at www.newmilfordct.gov on the banner, click Questions for Flat Iron- We will be sending the questions to the company for their answers.
