St. Patrick’s Day is a time for fun, but if your celebration involves alcohol, make sure you have a safe plan to get home. Louisiana’s DWI laws are no joke — and a festive night can quickly turn into serious legal trouble.

✅ Louisiana Revised Statute 14:98 defines Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) as operating any vehicle with a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of 0.08% or higher — and even lower for drivers under 21.

✅ Penalties range from fines and license suspension to jail time, especially if someone is injured.

✅ Open Container Laws (La. R.S. 32:300) also make it illegal to have open alcohol containers in your vehicle, even if you’re parked.

🍀 This St. Patrick’s Day, plan ahead — use a rideshare, designate a sober driver, or rely on public transportation. Your safety — and the safety of others — depends on it.
