A Message from Attorney Buck-Taylor:

As many of you might know, my current lease expires at the end of September.

After searching for several weeks, we have found a place to move my law office. It is at Park Glen Offices at 315 Litchfield Road in New Milford, Connecticut. We are in the process of moving and expect to be residing there in a few weeks.

Our contact information and our commitment to our clients, of course, remain the same as always.

Having been at 15 Bennitt Street for over twenty years there is definitely a feeling of sadness at leaving this beautiful building behind but we are excited over new beginnings as well.

Friends, Clients and Colleagues -

If you haven't heard already, I have sold the building at 15 Bennett Street in New Milford where my office is located. But have no fear, I have leased the office space back from the buyer, 15 Bennett Street LLC, and we are happily continuing with the legal practice.

It is going to be great to not have to be responsible for the upkeep, the plowing, the shoveling, etc.

The Judicial Branch is Expanding its Remote Capabilities:

Family
Parties who have non-adversarial divorces or a temporary agreement may have their family court cases approved and ordered.
The Judicial Branch implemented a new procedure for the remote filing of temporary restraining orders.
Parties who have a final agreement may have their family court cases resolved without having to come to court.
Family pretrials and status conferences are being conducted remotely via video or phone by judges and Family Relations Counselors with parties and/or attorneys, with the goal of conducting such a conference in every pending unresolved family case.
Litigants who have e-filed their dissolution of marriage or legal separation case may remotely request a qualified domestic relations order, which applies to the division of retirement assets.
Parties in gestational carrier agreements may request approval of their agreements, and the entry of pre-birth orders, without coming to the courthouse for a hearing.

Limited Operations to Resume in Three Currently Closed Courthouses

The Connecticut Judicial Branch is targeting the partial resumption of operations in three courthouses starting Monday, June 8, 2020.
The three courthouses are: the Middlesex Judicial District Courthouse in Middletown, Rockville’s Geographical Area No. 19 Courthouse, and the Litchfield Judicial District Courthouse at Torrington.

Priority 1 business – for example, arraignments of defendants held on bond; arraignments of defendants in any domestic violence cases, emergency child custody matters and juvenile detention hearings, and significantly, all other emergency matters – will continue to be handled in the open courthouses. With the partial resumption of limited court operations in these three, cases from those courts that had been transferred elsewhere will return to their original jurisdiction. Other logistics include the following:
• In the physical courthouses, the Judicial Branch will continue to concentrate on Priority 1 and emergency business.
• Juvenile Court business will resume in the Middletown, New Britain, and Torrington courthouses, effective June 8. Cases from the Waterbury Juvenile Court will go to Torrington; cases from the Waterford Juvenile Court will go to Middletown.
• The days and hours of court business at all open courthouses will be Mondays, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and on Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. All courts will be closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays until further notice. These days and hours of operation are subject to further change in the coming days and weeks.
• Cases from the Geographical Area Courthouse No. 12 in Manchester will be transferred to the Rockville Courthouse until further notice.

Get Divorced Without Appearing In Court

We are proud to announce that within three days of the Judiciary providing the needed documents to finalize a divorce without requiring the presence of the parties in Court, pursuant to the Governor’s Executive Order No. 7CC, The Law Office of Cecilia Buck-Taylor, PC was successful in obtaining a divorce decree in a pending case.

The Law Office of Cecilia Buck-Taylor, P.C. Covid-19 Response

The Law Office of Cecilia Buck-Taylor, P.C., will remain open during the Covid-19 outbreak.

To keep everyone as safe as possible, we are encouraging all our clients and prospective clients to communicate with us whenever possible by telephone or email. We can, however, easily accommodate any clients or potential clients who prefer not to visit the office through the use of technology. Simply call the office to work out the details and make arrangements. No one with symptoms should come to the office.

If a client is at the office, please do your best to keep to a reasonable social distance at all times. Unfortunately, we will only wave or have virtual hugs but no handshakes. We are using our best efforts to clean all surfaces after every client meeting.

For those clients with court matters, please be advised that many court hearings and trials pending in the Superior Court have been cancelled through March 27, 2020. Therefore, it is likely that clients will experience some delays in getting their matters through the court system. Please see the below link for the Statement from the Chief Judge Administrator Patrick L. Carroll, III for further information.
