Do you have to consent to a vehicle search in North Carolina?
Most people don’t realize this—but you have rights.
In NC, you do NOT have to consent to a search of your vehicle. If an officer asks, you can clearly and respectfully say:
“I do not consent to a search.”
Knowing this can make a major difference in protecting your rights.
If you’ve been charged or are under investigation in Craven, Carteret, Pamlico, or Jones County, don’t handle it alone.
