Yes! Everyone has an estate, so everyone needs a plan. What goes in your plan and how that plan is set up will depend on your specific needs and goals. Many believe only the wealthy need an estate plan, but this is a myth. Whether you are 18 or 118, you need an estate plan!

What is it Wednesday?

What is a "Beneficiary"?

A beneficiary is a person, company, or organization chosen to receive someone's money and/or "stuff" when they pass away. You might list someone as a beneficiary on a bank account, on life insurance, on a last will, or in your trust. Without beneficiaries, your "stuff" goes through the probate process to decide who gets it. As we learned last week, the probate process is avoidable, but the key is planning ahead.

Meet Jackie!

Jackie is one of our Partners. He attended University of Tennessee for undergrad and attended University of Louisville for law school, graduating in 2012. He has been at Waters, Tyler, Hofmann and Scott for a total of four years. He has been practicing law for 15 years. Jackie practices business and real estate law as well as probate and estate planning. His favorite part of working at the firm is assisting clients in preparing for their futures and helping with any difficult problems that come up.

In his spare time, he enjoys watching and playing sports, and chasing around his four kids and his rambunctious golden doodle, Winnie. He is the Vice President of the Southern Indiana Estate Planning Council, he sits on an advisory board for the Southern Indiana Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and he is on the board for the Kentucky Christian Chamber of Commerce.
