Every spring, I start hearing the same thing from homeowners:
“We’re doing a big spring clean… maybe we should sell this year.” 🌸
Spring cleaning is a great time to refresh your home. But interestingly, there are a few things people do during that process that can actually quietly lower how buyers perceive the home’s value.
Here are 3 spring cleaning mistakes I often see:
🧺 1. Over-personalizing while “refreshing.”
It’s tempting to add bold décor, bright paint colors, or lots of personal touches during a refresh. But buyers connect best with spaces that feel clean, neutral, and easy to imagine themselves living in.
🧼 2. Focusing only on the obvious areas.
Most people deep-clean kitchens and bathrooms, which is great. But buyers also notice details like baseboards, vents, windows, and light fixtures. Those small things subtly influence how well the home feels maintained.
📦 3. Storing clutter in closets and garages.
When closets and storage spaces are packed full, buyers assume the home doesn’t have enough storage, even if it actually does.
The goal of spring cleaning isn’t just making the home look tidy… it’s helping the space feel bigger, brighter, and better cared for. ✨
