Today, Heard Law is celebrating the dismissal of a headline criminal case successfully argued by our very own Mark Kovach. The case, State of Tennessee vs. Justin Gholson, involved the recent fatal altercation at Opry Mills Mall in Nashville; the defendant was originally charged with criminal homicide, but Mark convinced the state that his client acted in self-defense, leading to the case's dismissal today. Legal term of the day:
"Nolle prosequi", a Latin term meaning "no further prosection". This term is used when a plaintiff or prosecutor decides not to pursue the charges against a defendant.
Yesterday, Laney represented a client in Sumner County who faced a charge of aggravated burglary. Through her hard work, her client was granted a notice of nolle prosequi, and is no longer facing prosecution on the charge.
