I always recommend you insist that a police officer come to the scene of a crash and complete a report. In my experience, without a police crash report you may encounter issues should you need to file an insurance claim. For example, at the scene a driver may admit to you that he or she is responsible for causing the crash, only to turn around later and tell their own insurance company a different story. If this happens (and it often does) without a traffic crash report your claim will most likely be denied by the at fault parties liability insurance company and you could be fighting an uphill battle.

Avoid the potential pitfalls that come from not having a crash report and insist that an officer come to the scene, even if it takes two hours for them to get there. Trust me, it will be worth the wait. Two hours now or a two year legal battle later. Which do you choose?
