Big isn’t always better. Sometimes, personal matters more.

One of the most common things we hear from new clients is this:

“I hired a big law firm because I saw them everywhere on TV and online… but after six or seven months, I still hadn’t spoken to my lawyer.”

That’s what I hear from people all the time after they slip and fall.

But here’s the truth…

Not every fall is your fault.

Walking away from a crash doesn’t always mean you’re uninjured. Some concussion symptoms can take hours or days to appear.

“The other driver knows it was their fault. Why do I need evidence?”

Because what someone says at the scene may be very different from what they tell their insurance company later.

You remember them apologizing. A few days later, their insurer tells you they’re disputing what happened. Now it’s your word against theirs.

That’s why documenting a crash matters—even when fault seems obvious.

If you’re safely able to:

• Take photos of the vehicles, damage, road conditions, signs, and the surrounding scene.
• Get witnesses’ names and contact information. An independent witness can help clarify what happened.
• Save your original dashcam footage and back it up.
• Note nearby businesses or homes with cameras. Ask promptly whether relevant footage exists and can be preserved.
• Keep the other driver’s information, the police report number, and messages about the crash.

Your safety and medical needs come first. If you can’t gather evidence yourself, ask someone you trust to help.

The biggest surprises after a car accident are often hidden in the fine print.

Most people compare insurance policies by one thing: the monthly price. Very few people actually read what their policy covers—and, more importantly, what it doesn’t.

After nearly 20 years of handling injury cases, I can tell you that not all insurance companies offer the same protection. The differences hidden in the fine print can cost you thousands of dollars when you need help the most.

Here are just a few examples:

✅ Do you have Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage if the at-fault driver has little or no insurance?

✅ Does your policy protect you and your family if the worst happens?

✅ If you have passengers in your vehicle and another driver causes the crash, will your passengers have coverage under your policy if they need it? Some policies provide additional protection, while others have exclusions or limitations that many people don’t discover until it’s too late.

Don’t assume you’re fully protected just because you have an insurance card in your wallet.

Today, I challenge you to spend 15 minutes reviewing your insurance policy. Read the fine print. Ask questions. Make sure you understand exactly what you’re paying for before you need to rely on it.

I CAN’T WIN EVERY CASE — AND HERE’S WHY.

Let’s start with one of the most difficult areas of my job: wrongful death.

When someone dies unexpectedly, a family is grieving, angry and searching for answers. Sometimes they come to us before anyone truly knows what happened.

We may accept the case and begin investigating.

That investigation can take months. We review police reports, surveillance and traffic cameras, witness statements, medical records, autopsy and toxicology results, vehicle information, accident reconstruction and every other piece of evidence we can obtain.

And sometimes the evidence tells a very different story from what everyone initially believed.

For example, imagine a pedestrian is struck and killed by a vehicle at night.

At first, it may appear that the driver caused the death.

But the investigation later shows that the pedestrian was severely impaired by alcohol or drugs, entered a roadway where they should not have been, was difficult to see because of darkness, and stepped into the vehicle’s path so suddenly that the driver had no reasonable opportunity to stop.

A person still died.

A family still lost someone they loved.

That tragedy does not disappear.

But if the evidence shows that the driver acted reasonably and did not legally cause the collision through negligence, I cannot manufacture liability simply because the outcome was heartbreaking.

One of the hardest conversations I have as an attorney is sitting with a grieving family and explaining that the evidence does not support the case we originally hoped it would.

Things Most People Don’t Know About an Injury Case…

Many people think hiring an attorney means you sign a few papers and wait for a check.

The reality is very different.

A typical injury case looks something like this:

1. Case Evaluation – We review the accident and determine liability.

2. Investigation – Police reports, photos, videos, witnesses, and evidence.

3. Medical Documentation – Records, bills, diagnoses, treatment progress.

4. Insurance Analysis – Finding every available insurance policy and coverage.

5. Damage Calculation – Medical expenses, lost income, future care, pain & suffering.

6. Demand Package – Hundreds of pages of evidence sent to the insurance company.

7. Negotiations – Back-and-forth discussions to reach a fair settlement.

8. Litigation (if necessary) – Filing a lawsuit, discovery, depositions, expert witnesses, and mediation.

9. Trial Preparation – Organizing evidence, preparing witnesses, building courtroom strategy.

10. Resolution – Settlement or trial verdict, followed by resolving medical liens and distributing the recovery.

Some cases settle within months.

Others take a year—or even longer.

The goal isn’t to settle as quickly as possible.

The goal is to recover every dollar our clients deserve.

First things first — I can talk about this every day, 100 times a day, and 99% of people still won’t take it seriously until something bad happens.
